'Gory but gripping' --The Irish Times

Review

"'One of the features that make Hill's modern romances stand out in the crowded chick-lit field are the clever and unexpected plot twists in her tales that always give them a distinctly thriller-like edge. With this well-paced out-and-out crime story, featuring an attractive and intelligent new heroine, she looks set to find a whole new audience.' Irish Independent"

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! 9 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback
I have just finished reading "Torn", without even knowing that it was the seconds book in the series,so it can be read in isolation. I have now purchased "Taboo" (book one) and hope it is equally as gripping.
The book is amazing, it must be for me to finish it! It is the first book in (too many to count) years that I have read, cover to cover, and finished.
A HUGE well done the "Casey Hill" for an amazing read, Thoroughly enjoyed and really look forward to reading books one and three (coming soon I hope).
A MUST read!

For those of you that enjoy your crime novels fast moving and a little dark then this is for you! The characters are wonderful and the story just keeps on developing! I did put the book down at one point today; but found myself drawn back 5 minutes later!

The theme itself reminded me a little of the BBC TV Drama "Messiah" and just kept me gripped from start to finish!

I highly recommend that you give this book (and "Taboo") a go if you enjoy a good crime read

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good read 11 Feb 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is book is absolutely a must read for any fan of crime/thriller fiction. The plot is very good with a few twists thrown in which keep you guessing. The characters show the ability to be great despite their own personal scares and flaws. Major plot points hold up which keeps the story moving. Also love the interaction between the main characters and the supporting characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars great read 16 Sep 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Reilly Steel is back in the second book in the series. She is called to a crime scene where a man is found dead in the septic tank in his back garden. He was a journalist who didn't make many friends with his articles but there seem to be no obvious suspects. Soon after another body is found. The murder was clearly just as horrific but it was completely different. Reilly has to work out whether they are committed by the same killer or is it someone different.

I loved the first book in the series and this one didn't disappoint as a sequel. There were good developments in the main characters with more hinted at. I am really looking forward to book number 3 now.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bit of a slog 25 July 2013
By Lainy
Format:Kindle Edition
Forensic investigator Reilly Steel loves a challenge, examine the evidence, look for the clues and solve the crime. This case will challenge her to the max, the victims are killed in a different way and the crimes scenes are trying and unusual to say the least. The killer changes their MO and their seems to be no link to the victims, initially. It will take all of her skills, her team and a profiler to come together to try and catch a very intelligent and driven killer as the bodies are piling up and time is running out.

I think I am in the minority with this book as I didn't love it and I really struggled with it. There is quite a few characters in the book and I kept forgetting when another showed up what they had been doing in the previous chapter. The relationship between the police seemed strained and in some exchanges juvenile and childish, Lucy is a classic example of this. She is one of the younger members of the team but working for the lab in such a big profile case leads you to believe she is a capable individual however she is chastised for some actions and her response, I felt, was of a very young girl.

The profiler was very arrogant and cocky, I really disliked him and other than that I didn't have a huge reaction to any of the other characters. Chris, another officer, keeps flashing back to his past relationship with his ex which I couldn't understand the significance of it. It does become clear later but I found it quite annoying whilst in the dark about the reason for it.

The actual killer is always a step ahead and his killers are as shocking as they are unique however not a great deal of time is spent with him which is a shame. I think more insight as he went a long would have been good however it may have ruined the suspense of who the killer is.

Sorry but this tries to be American thriller but set in Ireland!! Didn't work on that level. The storyline started ok with a particularly unpleasant murder. Very original. But it just became unbelievable after that. Characters were not believable and the plot was just as thin. Not one of my favourite books this year.

Its ok I suppose. Just yet another run of the mill crime/murder/police/forensics paperback. At least it is set in Ireland rather than the US. I dont get the title though. Read more
