As a big Autopsy fan, I was expecting this to be good, and i was right! The same old style can be detected in a few of the songs, and the production is quite good. The last song, Madhouse At The End Of The World, has a very good Autopsy feel to it, but it drags on a bit at 7 minutes.
The other 12 songs are very quick, and so you don't get much chance to enjoy them, but they are some of the best songs that Chris has ever written, and the Clint Bower songs are also good. Highlights include, Tormented, the title track, Ratbag, Halo Of Disease, Death Runs Red, and Street Trash.
Ratbag is the funniest song of the lot, with a very happy sounding riff that belies some very sick lyrics... The lyrics are on the whole the sickest of just about anything that I've ever heard, and that's saying much, cause i own loads of Autopsy!
I can't wait to get the other stuff they've brought out before this, and I'll then complete my Chriss Reifert collection!
Anyone who loves gore death metal, and lots of depraved lyrics will enjoy....

Abscess's 2nd full-length album covers pretty much the same territory as their first: nasty downtuned death metal with a hint of punk and a dash of doom. The big difference is the production on 'Tormented' which may be the best the band (or bands if you include Autopsy) have ever had - paradoxically however while this sounds very heavy I personally prefer the sleazier sound of 'Seminal Vampires and Maggot Men', but for newcomers to this band from more polished death metal outfits this would be a good introduction.
