Book Description

1 April 2007 0847829294 978-0847829293
Tord Boontje incorporates a romantic, artisanal sensibility to contemporary industrial and product design, drawing from a rich graphic tradition to create objects of exceptional beauty and delicacy. One of the most original and innovative product and furniture designers working today, Boontje is an artist and a craftsman, and in designs for Swarovski, Artecnica, and Moroso, his lamps, chairs, fabric designs, paper products, and art installations have vaulted him into the top ranks of contemporary design culture. Featured in headline exhibitions at the Milan Furniture Fair, the Victoria and Albert Musem and Art Basel: Miami, the unique paper creations and furniture developed by Boontje have become global objects of desire, spawning a cult following among collectors and design consumers. Lavishly illustrated with over 300 sketches, concept renderings, and photographs, the book is a comprehensive visual document of the designer's work and an art object in itself, featuring a number of custom printing effects-stencils, perforated and die-cut pages, and textured and woven details-that capture the intricacy of Boontje's approach to pattern-making.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tord Boontje 13 Sep 2010
Format:Hardcover
This book is fantastic, a design classic in itself with pricked pages and a scrim covered cover. It is fantastically illustrated and well written, a joy to read. I really liked seeing the way Tord Boontje's work had evolved and how he would return to and rework an idea. Very inspiring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new, but a quality book with plenty of details. 28 Jun 2007
By silenceisgolden - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
As a big fan of Boontje from about five years ago, there was no doubt that I would purchase the book in a heartbeat if I saw it in the stands. If you've gone to his site more than once, have a passion for floral designs, hyper-graphics, or just loves the Garland Light, Midsummer Light, or other products of his, I am sure you'd enjoy this book. The fabric-mesh cover with half die-cut pages (of course, in a floral pattern), and full bleed high-quality photos on a thick paper all make this heavy-duty coffee-table book worth its damage. Despite having roamed the internet for everything Boontje, there are personal photos, his influences, detail photographs of his chandeliers (and other products), and plenty of information that has not been published elsewhere - so if you think you've seen it all, well - there is more! If you are unfamiliar with Boontje, I would recommend going to his homepage, seeing if you're even remotely interested in his design, and would consider buying his monologue if you like them since his products have already turned into a 'classic' of our time (see MoMA store and others).

5.0 out of 5 stars gorgeous! 29 Aug 2008

I fell in love with Tord Boontje when I saw his Midsummer Light. Since then, I have scoured the internet for his other pieces and have only come to love his work even more. It's very ethereal, whimsical, and feminine in an airy, fairy tale kind of way.

I bought this book now knowing exactly what to expect, but it is gorgeous. It is obvious that a lot of thought when into creating this book, from the numerous photographs and extensive text to the textured cover and punched designs. The thought and design that went into this book reflect his overall aesthetic very well.

I enjoyed seeing photos of his work, his studio, his family, and his installations. The text gave a lot of information about his childhood and how he became to be a designer. I only wish there had been MORE pictures and MORE information on his creative process.

The only down side to this book: it's pretty heavy and when I put it on my lap, my legs get numb after about fifteen minutes!
