Product Description

This superbly written and exquisitely illustrated book showcases 40 of the world's most outstanding skiing areas on four continents. Each resort has an undeniable magic, an appeal that makes it stand out above the rest. From the lively apres-ski in the fairytale setting of southern Germany's charming Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the demanding black diamond runs of Whistler in British Columbia, the high-tech wonder of the world's largest snow-making system at Lake Tahoe, USA to the sukii-jou (small ski areas) of Japan's Nagano Prefecture, this unique collection showcases the very best in skiing experiences available today. Whether the reader is a daredevil heliskier, yearning for superb scenery and solitary carving in perfect powder conditions, or has an appetite for apres-ski, this treasure chest of a book is the perfect inspiration. The author infuses his lively narrative with a personal note and anecdotal detail. The Ski Club of Great Britain has supplied fact boxes for each resort: accessibility, height, number and level of pistes, and number of lifts.

Great photos of mountains and skiing in the early 90's. This book is at least 15 years out of date in regards to skiing, resorts and even weather pattens.

Coffee Table Only 27 Dec 2002
By Jennifer Greer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I would love to visit all of the ski areas mentioned in this book, but the book does not describe or illustrate any of them well. Each resort has been given approximately 4 pages of space in the book. There are a few pictures of slopes or base areas, but not enough to give the reader any feel for what the resorts really looks like. In addition, the information the author conveys about each area is quite minimal. There is a map of where in the world each of the resorts is located, and a small box containing directions to the particular resort, mountain height, number of lifts and difficulty level of runs. However, there are no trail maps. The author's incredibly brief references to a few of his favorite runs may be helpful if one writes down their names and finds them upon arriving at the resorts, yet there is not enough description of the terrain to truly inform the reader of what these ski areas are like. Furthermore, no information is given about where to stay or eat once one has arrived at the resorts. While this book looks attractive sitting on a coffee table, its use should be limited to just that.

Not the most comprehensive book 12 Oct 2005
By dasn0wman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
So this is not the most comprehesive book out there...not sure if one exists that can be comparable to some ski web sites out there. I can't believe there is no ski map to associate with each location. I mean, we are talking about the "Top Ski Resorts of the World!" This is not your run-of-the-mill, three-hour drive local ski resort unless you happen to live next to Whistler Mountain (Damnn you). The least they could do is provide a small ski map of the world-renown resort. And there is just not enough information or stats for each mountain. Despite the information shortcoming, I still give it three stars for the beautiful photography - the only reason I bought the book in the first place - I'm no fool.

Fantastic photography, great coffee table book to look at any time that you can't get to the mountains. I'm going to try and work my way through all the resorts mentioned and cross them off progressively from my dream list.
