This is the fourth release in De Wolfe Music's commercial series to celebrate their centenary. The 26 tracks are a mix of TV and radio themes and incidental music recorded between 1960 and 1982 and most, though probably not all, will be familiar to people of a certain age. As expected from the vaults of a library music record company much of the music is of the easy listening variety with the odd exception. There are many highlights. The extraordinary 'Roobarb and Custard' theme tune (all 41 seconds of it) is a mad and frantic delight by Jonny Hawksworth, a mainstay of the UK library music scene who appears four times on this album. Elsewhere Wayne Hill's
Left Bank Two, although recorded in 1963, is synonymous with the 1970s and has featured on countless adverts and TV programmes. Jack Trombey's 'Eye Level' - the theme to Van Der Valk - opens the album and Simon Haseley's
Precinct has a distinctive Blaxploitation vibe.
On the whole its easy listening, its elevator music at times and its nostalgic but it ain't half decent. Detailed liner notes, mainly concentrating on the TV and radio shows, are included.
