I bought this on the strength of owning and loving another of the author's books - The Apothecary's Garden - and it doesn't disappoint. Despite being small and compact, it crams in a huge amount of information. The book is very clearly divided into sections with colour coding and use of symbols. Information is presented in a very clear format and each herb has a photograph to go with it. There are two main sections - the herbs in the first section in alphabetical order by Latin name, and the 100 ailments in the second section sub-divided by body system.
My only complaints are that the symbols and medical terms used can be a bit confusing for an amateur herbalist (like me) and I would prefer terms in plain English, although there is a glossary at the back. Also some of the photos have been chosen for their aesthetic appeal rather than for identification and accuracy, making this a lovely reference book for home use but not something I would take into the field.

A friend recommended this book, and I am not disappointed. It is well laid out, and easy to follow. Whether you are simply interested in the medicinal value of many common plants, or want to go ahead, and make your own remedies, you will find this book a valuable companion.
