terrorist chic from the cutting edge of Irish writing.,

I read Joe Ambrose's second novel in one weekend. It concerns two guys who grow up in the Seventies listening to punk rock and experimenting with drugs and sex. One of them goes into the IRA. The other gets involved too but sits on the sidelines. We go everywhere from the bedrooms of Cyberpunk Anarchists to the graves of Ireland. We get a big portrait of Dublin today, which the narrator attacks as a souless place obsessed with money, the making of it and the spending of it. Joe Ambrose is a compelling writer and he tackes difficult material with great slickness. Best punk rock novel of the year. Best insight into terrorism I've read. Jani Ackermann
