From Amazon.co.uk

Too Many Crooks (1958) boasts an intricate plot in which Terry Thomas is being blackmailed for the hoards he's stashed away as a renowned tax dodger. Driving around in a Jaguar XK 150, a desirable sports car of the period, his intricate private life unravels as his put-upon wife, Brenda de Banzie, draws on her expertise as a wartime PT instructress to turn the tables on him by marshalling the support of a band of crooks (George Cole, Sidney James, Bernard Bresslaw and Joe Melia). Look out for the very funny court scene, where TT makes three appearances on separate charges before a bemused magistrate, John Le Mesurier.

On the DVD: Too Many Crooks is in 4:3 ratio and has a mono soundtrack. The only extra feature is a trailer. More TT tomfoolery can be found in the three-disc Terry Thomas Collection. --Adrian Edwards

5.0 out of 5 stars Terry-Thomas at his very finest! 10 May 2003
Format:VHS Tape
If you like Terry-Thomas you will love this movie. For my money it is one of the great forgotten classic British comedies of that era. It was later re-made in the 1980's, in the USA, under the title of "Ruthless People" with Bette Midler and Danny De Vito. They shouldn't have bothered - it was not a patch on this brilliant original. The storyline is classic farce: a gang of crooks kidnap the wife of a wealthy arms dealer and attempt to ransom her back to him. Unfortunately, the arms dealer (Terry-Thomas) is not playing ball and has no intention of paying. The result is that the kidnapped wife joins with the gang to take Terry for every penny he's got. It sounds corny, but, trust me, it is very, very funny. So, go on, what are you waiting for? Buy it now!

4.0 out of 5 stars A classic comedy 15 Jun 2002
Format:VHS Tape
This film is a classic. Terry Thomas is perfect as the scoundral husband. George Cole, Sid James and Bernard Bresslaw make up the gang. It is your typical british comedy of the day and one you will want to watch time and again. As with all british comedies of this time, they are just as good and funny to watch now as they were in the fifties.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Classic Era Atypical British Comedy' 10 July 2008
By Antony May TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
'Too Many Crooks' is a hilarious British comedy from the classic era of that particular genre and if you've ever been a fan of such films you should own it! Terry-Thomas, George Cole and Bernard Bresslaw in particular put in faultless performances and ably demonstrate the art of character acting in the process. There are so many funny moments and farcical scenes that I bet you will probably have to watch the film a good few times over before you fully appreciate all of the jokes. Almost inevitably, the most hilarious moments revolve around Terry-Thomas's character and the scene where he arrives in a rush when told his house is on fire just about steals the show for me! As a 'bank shy and decidedly dodgy' individual, Terry has hidden a lot of his (undeclared for income tax) cash under the floorboards in his bedroom. With concerned family members anxiously looking on whilst the fire brigade attempt to put out the blaze, (showing no regard for their welfare), Terry barges through and dives straight through the downstairs windows in an attempt to rescue his beloved cash! Dragged bodily from the building by a brave fire fighter sent in to 'rescue' him, as soon as he recovers he dives back into the house AGAIN HA HA HA. I won't spoil the rest of the plot for you but simply say that with some excellent performances all-round and a fast moving and witty script, you really need to see/own this film! Great Stuff.
