Product Description

Product Description

These 'British Isles' of ours are populated by people who originate from throughout the world; from North, South, East and West. Individually, or as family groups, they will have come to start a new life; to escape from persecution, hunger or despair. It is our strength because somehow we learn to adapt ourselves to meet our own, and other's needs, no matter how daunting they may be. Tony and Nita Zweigbergk learned to do just that during their, very different, childhood and teenage years. Then they met and fell in love. Then along came World War II. We are privileged to share these experiences, plus by reading between the lines we are able to share the boredom, depression, comradeship, fun, fear and sorrow that became the life of those who lived 'on the edge of life and death' to ensure our precious freedom.

About the Author

Born in August 1939 - 10 days before war was declared, and her father joined the RAF, Britta von Zweigbergk spent the first few months of life sleeping in a drawer in her grandparents flat in Hove near Brighton. Thereafter, with her mother, sometimes her grandparents and eventually her brother, David, born in 1943, following her father from a safe distance, between Cirencester, Wootton Bassett, North Muskham and Hove. Like her father she was interested in art from an early age and studied at Folkestone and Dover Schools of Art and then at Saint Martins. She combined a young family with an initially very part time career as an art therapist, for a time working with Cynthia Pell the artist, who was a patient at Bexley hospital before she comitted suicide in 1977, leaving Britta 122 peices of her work. Britta von Zweigbergk was interviewed by 'Womans Hour' and recently spoke about Cynthia and her work on the BBC2 series 'The Secret of Drawing'. Now semi-retired and able to devote more time to writing she still works as an art therapist for 2 and a half days a week
