Product Description

From the first sighting by a wayward buccaneer in1688 all the way through to the present day, Australia has been influenced by many cultures. Now Tony Robinson (Time Team, Blackadder) uncovers amazing stories of conflicts, hardship and discovery to bring fascinating new insights into the impact that so many nations have had on Australian life.

Tony retraces the steps of the earliest explorers, delves into the harrowing stories of the early days of white settlement, finds out how the indigenous Australians responded to their invaders, looks at the turning points in Australia s development and explores the influence of multiculturalism and two world wars on Australia s relationship to Britain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining History 15 July 2012

As a New Zealand born Australian, I loved this series and so did my family. It is an entertaining look at Australia and the early history of it, so we found this very interesting, as we did not grow up with this knowledge. As well, it also showcases some of the iconic scenic spots and I found myself feeling proud to be Australian. We live in a great country! Tony Robinson is a delightful, comical, storyteller and as a fan of Time Team, The Very Best Time Team Digs [DVD], this added another dimension. Well done Tony! A more serious, Australian born, friend commented that she found the history factual but towards the end, she was a bit dismayed at the light-hearted approach to some of the more serious historical spots, like Port Arthur but I thought it was very well done over-all and have since bought another copy for a friend. I regard it as very good value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Robinson Programmes - Always Enjoyable 20 April 2013

This is a short series of programmes about the history of Australia that I have not seen on TV in the UK - I think they may have been shown on one of the cable channels. Very interesting for anyone who enjoys history and also shows the beautiful scenery of Australia. I could not fault it.

I sent this as a gift and I think the recipient is very happy with it. It takes a lot of hassle out of buying presents.
