4.0 out of 5 stars Tony Hawk's trick tips, 28 Dec 2002
Usually instruction videos for sakateboarding are rubbish,or at best, patronising, but I watched this with surprised pleasure. As an old skool skater I got this for my stepson who is about to have his life taken over by skating and found the style and technical content of the tape to be right on the money. The delivery is light and humorous but solidly focused on helping kids get the basics quickly. Actually, if any kid gets all thids stuff down in a year or so it will be fast and he'll be a good skater at the end of it - its not that basic, especially if you consider the two tapes together. Its quite comical that even Tony Hawk, who is not best known for his street skating has to try hard to do some of the more technical street tricks. The emphasis on safety is fair enough, but will inevitably be ignored by kids.

Even old skool or established skaters will get something from this package and maybe the old method of squinting at skate mags for hours trying to figure out how so-and-so did his trick will be a thing of the past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and informative, 28 Jan 2004
By A Customer
I liked these DVDs. I used to skate 20 odd years ago, and bought these for my son who has recently taken it up.

The style is humerous and encouraging without being patronising. Tony Hawk comes over as a genuine bloke who wants to impart his knowledge to others.

I liked the fact that they started with the very basics and didn't assume too much prior experience. There are plenty of slo-mo shots from different angles, and tips on how to correct common mistakes.

I would guess that the information on these DVDs would keep you busy for 2 or 3 years if you learned all the tricks.

The only criticism I would make is that they aren't that long, and I would have thought they could have put some sequences from Xgames or similar in to pad things out. That being said, I think they represent good value for money.
