Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Tony Hawk is thirty-nine now and yet already nine of those years have been spent appearing in Activision’s yearly skateboarding sims. As such he has nothing at all to prove any more but in this game you do, as the series takes a turn away from the action adventure gameplay of previous titles and recalls the glory days of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2. Not only does it include real world landmarks from the older game, such as FDR Skatepark and the Love Park, but it also sees the return of favourite features such as Create-a-Park.

In the main single player mode you create your own skater and then follow their entire skateboarding career in one of three classes: hardcore, rigger and career. Hardcore skaters aren’t interested in competitions or trophies, career skaters are and riggers prefer to invent tricks and layouts out of ordinary environments. The control system expands on the Nail the Trick concept from the last game, which essentially creates a kind of slow motion bullet time that zooms the camera in closer to your board. Proving Ground adds in Nail the Grab and Nail the Manual which work in a similar way. New moves include the turbo boosting Aggro Kick and Skate Checking, which basically amounts to knocking people out of the way. Like many new game at the moment the online community will allow you to upload videos of your endeavours as you attempt to prove you’re the best, at the best new Tony Hawk’s game for years.

Fun:
I normally don't review anything, but this got my goat. I'm a tony hawk's veteran since the first one. This one is poor in comparison to any other tony hawk's game. It's almost unplayable, the graphic have constant bug's, and some on the new modes, such as design your own grab, are ridiculous. I warn anyone who buys this game will be greatly disappointed, especially those who were tony hawk's fans.

just not the same 9 Nov 2007
Fun:
Although the new instalment of tony hawk's skateboarding has been well recieved on both xbox and playstation 3, this is as far as the praise goes. unfortunately due what i consider poor decisions made by neversoft and activision, the wii version was made using the same model as that of the playstation 2. this meant that rather than being designed compleltely by neversoft, a second party were used (studio 40, or something like that). This meant that not only does the wii version not have the video editor, but in general corners have been cut throughout the game. The game does not consist of one big level , as is featured in the ps3 and xbox 360, instead smaller levels are unlocked as you go along. initially i thought this a good idea as i thought it would result in better graphics. however the graphics on the wii version are short of appauling, worse than titles on the gamecube, except that is, on the characters themselves, which look ok.
what makes this game such a letdown is the controlls, although easy enough to grasp, the motion system is not used to its best capabilities, with several moves requiring much the same action which leads to a great deal of frustration.
having said all this i, as an avid tony hawk's skateboarding games fan did quite enjoy the game, but i stuggle to see other people doing so. wii owners have been cheated out of the last tony hawk's title, and now we have a half rushed second gen version, its high time we got a decent skateboarding game such as the xbox 360's skate. realistic and smooth, not fast and rushed.

Fun:
After playing American Wasteland and loving it I thought that this new offering from the Tony Hawk empire would make for even better gameplay... I was wrong. The controls are horrible. Trying to do a jump whilst shaking one hand up and down and pressing the A button!!! I might as well be playing blindfold standing on my head whilst being repeatedly hit with a whip.

As you can probably gather I dont rate this game very much. I have now bought American Wasteland for the gamecube and will be playing it on my Wii with the gamecube controller. At least that only cost me £7 and not the £30 odd I forked out for this rubbish.

Dont be put off though, this game would be perfect for a child prodigy with limitless abilities. Possibly utilising the power of telekinises to control the character.

Overall though the game looks good and, if it could be controlled better, would make for a great play. However it is much rather suited to being listed on eBay ;)
