I admit, first and foremost, that as a huge fan of John Barrowman I am fairly biased in his favour, but I sincerely believe this latest offering is an excellent selection of songs, especially for newcomers who may not be too familiar with his music.
Best known for his role as Captain Jack Harkness on Torchwood and Doctor Who, there are a lot of folks who aren't aware that his roots lie in musical theatre. His CDs over the years have been a fairly eclectic selection of music, ranging from musical theatre to modern day pop.
This latest CD contains a selection of songs from his previous three albums - "Another Side", "Music Music Music" and his self-titled album "John Barrowman". The songs are his some of his favourites from each album, and if you already have those albums then you may be familiar with the meanings that each of those songs have for the entertainer.
In addition to the compilation of songs from previous albums, there are two newly recorded songs: Rod Stewart's "Tonight's the Night" and the new single "I Owe It All To You". It's been suggested that the inclusion of these two new recordings are simply a way to guarantee long-time fans will buy the new album, but that does not diminish the delight of having two new songs to listen to.
The album is a most enjoyable compilation for both newcomers and current fans. My only disappointment is that he has not included the beautiful song "Don't Cry Out Loud", from his previous album. That aside, this is well worth adding to the collection, and even more worthwhile for starting off an entirely new collection of John Barrowman music.
