Having seen Richard Hawley perform this song on 'Jools Holland', I rushed out to buy this 'single'. What we have here is a truly gifted and talented singer/songwriter who is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. Beautiful!

Having only just discovered Richard Hawley after watching 'later with Jules Holland' I think he is fantastic, a rich smooth mellow voice, so easy to listen to, magical!

Here's further evidence that the Artic Monkeys were right, and Richard Hawley was robbed when he was,nt awarded the Mercury Music Prize( Incidentally the nomination list this year is truly risible) That of course was the wonderful album "Coles Corner" and this song is a taster from his forthcoming new album "Ladys Bridge".
The Streets Are Ours is a magnificent song like Joe Jacksons "Steppin Out" , about going out with someone special and just feeling like the world is yours for the taking. The guitars chime with a faintly exotic air giving the song a summery ambience but really the song will sound exceptional at any time of year and given that we haven't had much of summer this year that has already been proved.
Hawley's voice is as distinctive as ever , a lovely rich burr with an oh so slight frisson of world weariness and the melody is elegant and just flows like molasses mixed with 2 stroke oil. The songs thematic hub will resonate with just about everyone I would guess because we have all surely had those nights where just felt on top of the world , despite whatever is going on around us. Rather peversely the songs undertones of anger and bitterness at others spoil its magical ambience not one jot. It,s a song about love and hope and revelling in the moment, and that's exactly what should be done while this song is playing.
