A pair of humbuckers for £70 how good can they be when a single 'quality' unit will cost much more. Well I was surprised. They are really VERY good. I've fitted them to a mahogany bodied 1982 Washburn Raven that i'm doing up ,just as an idea of the environment they are in
What you get is a plastic boxed humbucker with springs and mounting screws a paper insert with a 'common' les paul type wiring diagram , the humbucker with the two tap wires already soldered and sheathed.
OK now the $64000 question are they any good...... Well they say they are overwound PAF's. and as I have PAFS in another guitar in comparison they do sound VERY close. Clean they are very crisp and bright and with distortion they have a very even response (both neck and bridge) .The bass is tight and the treble is very nice. All in all I am very happy with this purchase. I had to overcome the 'expensive'= 'best' hurdle but with two quality pickups costing £180 I couldn't stretch to it .what finally tipped me was the number of people on line saying they were good pickups and in the words of Eddie Van Halen ....'Pickups aint rocket science its just magnets and wire' ,I'm sure Seymour Duncan will disagree but certainly these magnets and wire do a very fine job.
