The suction base makes it suitable to stick to a high chair or car window. The three "balls" test all the senses: the ratchet ball encourages babies to turn it and makes a satisfying "clicking" sound; the textured soft ball is made from a variety of materials and takes your baby's fingers from rough to smooth and soft to shiny; then the glistening ball catches the light as babies spin the ball round. All three are on a circuit that will spin round and screw up and down the supporting stick.
Each of the development toys in Dr Miriam Stoppards range is designed to tie in with a key milestone, or developmental stage. The Activity Spiral is aimed at children aged eight to 15 months, once they can sit unsupported in a high chair, can grab and point and are beginning to really take an active part in the world around them. It will encourage hand-to-eye co-ordination, cause and effect and fine motor skills. Practically, the suction pad means that they will be occupied during a car journey, or sitting in their highchair while breakfast is prepared. The toy also includes a wall chart detailing the various "monthly miraculous milestones". --Lucie Naylor
