The modern take on the traditional toy is its stacking action--instead of a pole around which plastic rings are stacked, each "ring" has a half ball at the centre and a hollow base, so they fit inside each other. This means that the rings can be stacked two ways: in ascending and descending order of size. And though six-month-olds (the beginning of the recommended age range) won't be able to complete the stack, they will enjoy the wobbly base and surprise rattling smiley ball at the bottom, as well as the bright colourful rings.
Along with shape sorters and rattles, stackers are a staple of the under-two's toy box. As a modern, updated version of a classic toy, Tomy's Baby Vision is a great version that will grow with your toddler's abilities and be with them for some time. --Lucie Naylor
