How refreshing. A country album that actually has country music on it. In these days of pop-passing-itself-off-as-country, it's nice to hear something that actually does what it says on the cover. I'd never have said I was a fan of Dwight Yoakam, although I do like a lot of his music. But this album is great. None of the slick and glossy Nashville production is anywhere to be seen, and in fact the production is a little rough around the edges. But this is no bad thing - quite the opposite in fact, it gives the album an "earthy" quality, and draws you right in to the music, rather than concentrating on the sound. And what's this? It seems like there's a steel guitar revival going on here - with some incredible playing on the second track, "What Do You Know About Love", and continuing right through the album. And just for good measure, old-timer Buck Owens pops up on the last two tracks. This is great stuff. If you love country music, you'll love this album. Buy it now.
