Product Description

When their country is invaded and their families are taken, eight high school teenagers band together to fight. Seventeen-year-old Ellie Linton wants one final adventure with her friends before the school holidays are over. Packed in Ellie's parents' land rover they drive to the famously isolated rock pool Eden dubbed 'Hell' by the locals. Returning to their home town of Wirrawee, the seven teenagers realize that something is seriously wrong. Power to the houses has been cut, pets and livestock have been left dead or dying, and most alarmingly of all, everyone's family has vanished. When the hostile armed forces discover that the teenagers are lying low in the vicinity, Ellie and her friends must band together to escape, outwit and strike back against the mysterious enemy that has seized control of their town and imprisoned their friends and loved ones...

First Sentence
It's only half an hour since someone - Robyn I think - said we should write everything down, and it's only twenty-nine minutes since I got chosen, and for those twenty-nine minutes I've had everyone crowded around me gazing at the blank page and yelling ideas and advice. Read the first page

This book is so thought-provoking. I read it in my early teens and I have continued to go back to it and read it again and again. Sent to me by my aunt in australia, as many of my books were, it begs the question why many of these great books i cannot find in britain. I really love this book. It's great. I don't read traditional books, don't enjoy poetry etc. But this, is just amazing.

This book is the start of something that I think every Australian and others too should read. This really makes you think about what it would be like to hide from a war in your country. About how hard it would be, how many problems you would encounter. This is the best book I have ever read. The moral is very important Keep the peace and life will be alright, make war and you face a hard time. Ellie is a very developed character who writes in the first person. The ending of the last book is sad and you realise that you have finished the series. This is a great book

This is the first in an ongoing series of books about how a group of Australian teenagers cope when their country is unexpectedly invaded by an unknown country. They have to survive by their wits alone in a land suddenly alien to them; the book is about how they cope with the loss of friends, family and their entire world - and how they start to fight back. It its the first in an ongoing series, of which only the first three have currently been published in this country (Don't believe anyone that tries to tell you its just a trilogy!). In Australia, they're up to 6, with a seventh and final one on its way this November. The three available here are:

Tommorrow When The War Began

The Dead of the Night

The Killing Frost (originally published as The Third Day, The Frost)

but the series continues with:

Darkness, Be My Friend

Burning for Revenge

The Night is For Hunting

I was sent the first by a friend in Australia, and loved it so much that when I was over there visiting, had to buy up all the rest. So - buy it, but be warned - you'd better cultivate those Australian friends, since the three that you can get over here just won't be enough!
