I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this film and have been buying old ex-rental VHS versions of it for years, worried to death that tapes might break and I might lose a film that I find incredibly inspirational and very, very clever. Anyone who enjoys programmes like Hustle is pretty much guaranteed to enjoy this, I think, because basically it's about playing con games against unscrupulous businessmen, etc, who deserve their come-uppance. More importantly, for me, it's the story of the central Character, Tracy Whitney, that has always inspired me. She has it all, LOSES it all and then finds a way to regain MORE THAN what she started with, to get revenge on those who set her up, and to find real love in the shape of the lovely Tom Berenger (and WHICH of us would complain, really?). As a former make-up artist, I LOVE watching all the changes in make-up, hair, and costume, all the disguises and different 'characters' Tracy Whitney plays and the fact that Part 2 of the film is so darned glamorous! I'd recommend this film to any woman who has ever felt betrayed and dreamed of getting her own back, and to anyone who has ever felt that there is no hope for their future. It may just be a silly film, but it's one of those that makes you believe that anything is possible, and I think that's no bad thing, these days. I also highly recommend the book of the same name, which I found a gripping read, even though I'd seen the film before I read it. I'm buying copies of the DVD for every Strong Woman I know, so snap 'em up while they're still available, is my advice!
