After reading many reviews (not just here on Amazon) saying that these reins would not fit over a padded coat/jacket, I was a little dubious as to whether I should get these or not. I decided to go ahead and order these reins.

These were bought after looking at many different types of reins (rangeing in price from as little as £5 to more than £20).

All I can say is that I'm glad I did. I didn't want to pay too much for reins as I know I will only be using these every now and then.

There is a little pocket on the front, which is a really nice added touch.

At first my 18 month old toddler was excited to see them, as he knew that they were for him. So I tried them on him (without a coat) and he put them on fairly easily... that was until I fastened all the clips, at which point he became quickly destressed by them and wanted me to take them off. I quickly took them off and seriously thought about returning them.

The following day we decided to take the little one out for a walk. Got him dressed, put on his coat and then put the reins on. I don't know if it was the fact that he knew he was being taken out, but he put it on without any problems.

It fitted perfectly over his jacket (which was quite padded) & 3 layers of clothes. It even needed to be tightened.

He kept it on the whole time we were out and about. He didn't even pay any attention to the fact that it was there.

Overall, very happy with this purchase. Have already recommended it to a few friends who have young children.

Only time will tell if we will be able to use this until my toddler is 4 years old.

I didn't buy these from Amazon, but I have been using them on my daughter since she was one and still use them on her now that she's 2. She is by no means a small child - tall for her age, no porker but sturdy enough.

I have found these rains to be durable, secure, the handle is an excellent feature that I still use when necessary, and it seems to cause her no harm when I do lift her up a step by it etc.

She has worn it over coats without a problem in the dead of winter. We did have one issue when she was dressed for snow, in multiple jumpers and coats, and so we just put the rains on underneath several of her layers and brought the long reins out the back of her clothing to keep her from slipping over. I found that to be a good solution and it didn't seem to bother my daughter either.

It's not just me either - my parents look after her several afternoons a week and they have found these reins essential. My husband uses them, my inlaws use them - not only without complaint but with enthusiasm.

So either Tommee Tippee updated these reins since the other reviews were written (?) or perhaps we have just been lucky, but if I lost these, I would buy another pair of the exact same make.

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews?? This product is fantastic! We had a pair prior to the Tommee Tippee that we were happy with. We bought them in the states at a Walmart for 5 dollars and they did what they needed to do. Then I came across the Tommee Tippee reins in a TK Maxx ( I didn't purchase them on Amazon#, and thought they looked well made so I bought them to try out. My husband and I now use the Tommee Tippee reins almost everyday now. They are so sturdy and well made that my husband can lift our 21 month old by the back handle and twist her around in the air with no problem # and believe me, he does this alot!) Also the reins are not too long that it keeps your child close by you. Another point that another reviewer made was during the winter season, its very cold where we live so my child wears layers of clothing including their heavy winter coat. We did not have a problem putting the reins over the clothing. My child is of average size, at 21 months weighs 30lbs. I cannot praise enough how well these reins have made our life easier as our child demands walking everywhere these days. If there comes a day where we lose or misplace this product, I will, with no doubt, buy another pair from Amazon and I'm happy to know they carry them.

This is a FANTASTIC product. There are many safety reins on the market but these are the first i've seen with padding to stop the staps digging into my daughter. She has no problems popping them on, they are easily adjustable for her tiny frame and expand by miles for when she has extra layers on in the winter.

I dont know why many people had problems putting this on their child, it isn't small at all, I've put these reins on my daughter on top of four layers of clothing as well as on top of her coat. The coat thing shouldn't be a problem, if it doesnt fit over (unusual to believe it won't) you can put the harness under the coat and take out the strap over the top.

Comes with two straps; short and long, long one is excellent for a bit of freedom when in the park, etc and the short strap is ideal for when in crowded areas and when wanting to keep child close by.

Due to the negative reviews of this i also bought another safety rein just to be on the safe side but I haven't even opened the other one because this one is so perfect.

I absolutely love this safety rein and so does my husband. It makes our days out so much more easier and safe.

Also has a little pocket which is on the small size but its ok to put a treat in there like a sweet or something, we usually buy those kinder egg things for our daughter when she behaves well which I have managed to slot into the front pocket.

Would definitely recommend other parents to buy this.
