I was really quite thrilled by this. So far the only book in the Tomes Of The Dead series I've really gotten into was Matt Smith's "The Words Of Their Roaring", and that was because it was everything I wanted and expected from a Romero style zombie tale. "I, Zombie" on the other hand specializes in the unexpected, wrongfooting those expectations at every turn. Without spoiling too much, everytime you start to get comfortable Ewing hits you with a curveball. It's all over the place and at times utterly mental, but to the right reader it's mental in all the right ways. A very fresh take on the zombie genre, and the most enjoyable of the "Tomes..." line so far. More Al Ewing please.

One of the most original and entertaining books I've ever read. Completely unpredictable throughout, throwing the reader off the scent and completely turning the story on its head several times, this is a book not to be missed by any fan of horror/sci-fi... I don't know how to describe it. Saying too much could ruin the suprise held within these mental pages. It is a gem. Trust me, the 5 star reviews are here for a reason.

Top notch.

Bravo Mr Ewing. I hope you'll follow this up with more mayhem.

This book is mental and the body-count is insane.

'I, Zombie' is not a typical zombie novel and in no way fits in with any of the other Tomes of the Dead series. I won't explain any more than that because I don't want to ruin the fun, but this story packs in a host of other pulp fiction genres, including gangster, detective, sci-fi, costume drama, horror, secret government agency paranoia, aliens, Japanese samurai (oh yes!)... and the deliberate cliche of an amnesiac protagonist.

It also redefines the concept of a plot twist. A twist? More like a meat-cleaver severance. My head was swimming as I read the final third of the book. Al Ewing is utterly bonkers: whatever he writes, read it!
