I really enjoyed this book - the story moves along at a great pace and I read it in two long sittings. I'd heard Christopher Brookmyre comparisons, and I can see where that's coming from because there's the same dry humour and the same witty, realistic dialogue. The plot doesn't have any mad Brookmyre-style twists, but that just gives the characters more room to develop. Nicola is one of the best-realised fictional women I've come across, and it's nice to see the heroine getting equal page time rather than just dripping about in the background!

It is some time since I have read a book as bad as this and how Christopher Brookmyre can endorse it is beyond me.
The storyline is weak and the ending is so predictable.Of course the author has to pad it out with a plethora of foul language,a touch of violence and some outdoor sex.
Be warned,this book is dire!!

A friend told me about this book and author, so I thought I'd give it a go...I'd pre-ordered it from Amazon ages ago, and forgotten all about it....When I received it, I read it within 2 days....what a great read and a great first novel....in terms of plot there were no major surprises or twists at the end, but that didn't spoil the enjoyment of getting sucked into the lives of great characters very well written....I think we all know a Nicola or a David and even a Mike unfortunately!! A really enjoyable read...looking forward to reading what Doug Johnstone produces next....
