Product Description

SMART ROUTES FOR YOUR TRUCKS AND HGV'S Diversions, rerouting and size restriction: every day drivers face a bewildering number of challenges to get through. Any one can delay deliverys - putting your drivers under pressure and leaving your customers dissatisfied. Until now, navigation devices havent really taken the needs of truck drivers into consideration. Slower, wider, heavier, taller, longer - route planning for bigger vehicals needs to be different. With TomTom work, it is! TomTom work uses smarter navigation to plan better routes for your drivers. They are less likely to get stuck delayed or drive unnecessary distances - meaning efficient journeys and accurate scheduling. Save time and money by taking the smartest route. TomTom GO 7000 gets you vehicals to their destination the smart way. No matter whether you drivers are at home or abroad, TomTom WORK takes into account: The lower speeds of trucks on all roads. Sharp angles that trucks find difficult. That trucks prefer left turns to right turn, for safety. Access restrictions for truck based on weight and dimensions. With the TomTom GO 7000 Truck delays are minimal and your will avoid clocking up excessive millages due to unexpected restrictions.

I've been using this product for a couple of weeks now. I put in my vehicle's weight and dimentions and it so far hasn't taken me down any roads with restrictions. Like other TomToms, the on-screen maps, displays and menus are clear and easy to use.

As other reviews have mentioned, it's not perfect. For some reason it won't acknowledge the Dartford tunnel (but the bridge going the other way is fine), and it seems to think that some smaller industrial areas have weight limits where they don't. Like any satnav, it's only as accurate as the postcode you are given, so I've taken to checking postcodes on Google Maps to check it isn't going to take me to the middle of some tiny village when I'm looking for an industrial estate on the outskirts. Not the sat nav's fault though.

The live traffic updates work very well. It comes with an antenna which you stick to the windscreen and picks up the information from there. If there is a delay on your route it will tell you how long the delay is expected to be, and if it becomes faster to use an alternative route, it will tell you how much faster the new route is and give you the option to take it.

It's been a while since I last ued a TomTom, and I'm very impressed with some of the extra features on this one. It will connect via Bluetooth to your phone and act as a handsfree kit to make and receive calls, and you can put MP3 music on it from your computer and it will play it back through an FM transmitter so you can pick it up and listen on your truck's radio!

The only real problem with mine is that when connected to my home computer, it won't let me log in to "TomTom HOME" to update the maps and speed camera locations. I think this might be to do with mine being second-hand "refurbished" though.

In summary, it's a very useful and impressive bit of kit, but not perfect yet so don't fall into the trap of following it blindly.

Really good. Does what it says on the tin. Only fault I have and its with TomTom and not specifically the satnav is that the TomTom website does not give instruction on how to update/upload maps onto the satnav.

It does what it does fairly well, but there are a few shortcomings:

If your destination (or start point) are inside a 7.5 tonne weight or similar restriction, it will report "No truck route found" and offer you a car route instead - which will then ignore *all* weight/height restrictions. It's one thing to ignore a 7.5 tonne weight limit in order to access a delivery point, but where the restriction is a low bridge...

The mapping data appears to identify e.g. 7.5 tonne weight limits by flagging up only the section of road at the *start* of the restriction - In many cases the unit will (wrongly) take you on a route via a few side roads that avoids the main entry to the restricted area. Derby city centre is a prime example.

The unit is able to use the TomTom HD traffic service, but not without buying additional hardware and a subscription to TomTom Work (unlike their car Satnavs, you can't simply connect via a suitable Bluetooth mobile phone). The RDS-TMC receiver that you can buy works OK - but only gives Traffic info for a few of the major roads and motorways. It also requires a good FM radio signal from Classic FM - so doesn't work at all in some areas, and is quite flakey in many others.

There are some 3rd party add-ons that address (most of) the shortcomings, but they are commercial products and will have to be paid for in addition to the purchase price of the Satnav.

Other than that, it works very well indeed.

Having used tomtom satnav for years now i upgraded to tom tom truck. The idea is great and fairly acurate, and it does as a rule avoid the tricky problems of navigating a 44 tonne truck round the UK. But Dartford tunnel, it refuses to go under, and selects Blackwall tunnel in stead.
If no truck route found, and a car route is used instead, it avoids the weight restictions, rather than low bridges.
It chooses the shortest route, instead of the easiets (sometimes then quicker) route for trucks
no motorway servises, or truck stops.Nor has it any of te industrial areas on, and if in doubt, a weight limit is imposed. Ie all the containerports in uk is no acces for trucks??
It give the impresion of a developer sat in a office that has no idea of problems driving a truck, and it gives the impresion that TomTom have not consuted the trucking industri about what is needed.

But as a experienced driver, it is a great tool, just dont throw away your trucking maps yet!

As an LGV driver I have always had to watch the size and weight restrictions before, my shift was stressful but since I use tom tom truck, my job became fun. I can't go out without it, this is a "must have" to all lorry drivers. Very easy to use, very straightforward and just put the size and weight of the vehicle and it plans the best and safest truck route for me. Also I can add hundreds of POIs for free, fast map share with other tom tom users, I can block or open any road, or change the direction on the map. Although, look out for road signs and plan ahead!
Thank you TOM TOM!

Good quality product, however, although there is a lot of countries covered overall, the actual restrictions for large vehicles are only covered in a few of the main countries. Hopefully Tom Tom will rapidly provide updates for this device otherwise it makes this very expensive for what you actually get.
Look carefully at the other options before you decide.
In favour of this device is that as updates are provided it is easy and fast to download them onto your device keeping you up to date with regulations/hieghts etc
Expensive but does what it says on the box.
Good and prompt service from Amazon, as always. Thank you.
