We purchased one of these and have had no problems with it. We then purchased a second one as a gift for a family member and it did work from the box, but when plugged into the computer to register it to Tom Tom all the maps were wiped from the memory and it would not work again. Amazon were fantastic and took it back. We then recieved the replacement and the exact same thing happened and I am now in the process of returning it to Amazon. My gripe is not with Amazon but with Tom Tom, whose customer service and help is appalling. You only have to look at other customer reviews on Amazon to discover this. As this is obviously an increasing problem I would like to see Amazon take a stand and fight their customers corner with Tom Tom in a bid to see their customer service improve.
Like I say this is a great piece of kit but it is let down by Tom Tom's poor customer service.

We bought this after some research, and have been delighted with it. The travel bit means it is the Tom Tom One with a travel case included, and very nifty it is too. We used it to navigate our way around the ice cream parlours of Italy and it really licked the opposition. Really great performance, and even when my husband didn't believe it, it was right. Back in England, it finds numerous satellites really quickly (less than 10 seconds) and then you are away. Really easy to program, and it really does work straight out of the box. We bought an external aerial for ours because we have one of those reflective windscreens, but didn't need it in Italy in our hire car. You won't be disappointed!

I got this a couple of weeks ago and have subsequently realised that this is a good deal amongst all the different versions around at the moment. It is a TomTom euro "New Edition" but what TomTom call V4 meaning it has 1GB of internal memory making it compatible with future 3rd Ed upgrades but also has an empty SD card slot, meaning for the price of a 2GB SD card you can double the expansion memory space. It also comes with new maps and good inbuilt points of interest. It also retains bluetooth capability.
My advice, for what it is worth, is to keep the bundled operating system and get TomTom "home" 1.5 with this unit, because the forums report lots of problems with the new 3rd edition navigation software and home 2.0.
Given that you have to get a carry case anyway, this seems a very decent price and has performed perfectly for me so far (with the proviso that I have resisted the buggy upgrades suggested when you connect it to the PC via TomTom home).

ok but
It looks good and directions are clear. What is hit and miss is whether you get up to date maps. I drive in Germany and my tom tom has out of date maps. Read more
