Reduce Driver Stress

Find the right route every time with the Rider, including easy and clear instructions on how to get started.

Advanced Lane Guidance

Drivers often feel stressed at unfamiliar junctions when there are a lot of lanes to choose from. Advanced lane guidance provides extra clarity to drivers in these circumstances, so they won't miss a turn or have to make a last-minute lane crossing. It works by giving them a still 3D image on the screen that clearly indicates the lane they need to take. So even at the most complex junctions and in the heaviest traffic, drivers can stay relaxed and in control.

IQ Routes™ Technology

Only TomTom uses actual speed data collected from millions of users to calculate the fastest routes at any point in time. Imagine a route that takes into account rush hour, traffic lights, zebra crossings, school exits or even shopping crowds, every minute of every day. That's how smart IQ Routes is!

Latest Map Guarantee

Sometimes, TomTom releases a new map between the time a device is manufactured and the time someone buys it. So we allow every TomTom customer to check for a new map release within 30 days of first using their device. If one is available, customers simply use the voucher that is included inside the box to download it for free. This is all done via HOME, TomTom's free desktop application, which will automatically recognise a newly connected device and check whether a newer map release is available for it.

Waterproof

Your TomTom RIDER is designed to be as rugged and waterproof as you need it to be, so you can rely on it, whatever the weather.

Map Share™ Technology

Our research reveals that roads change by as much as 15% every year. That's why we draw upon the largest satellite navigation community in the world – ours. Through our unique Map Share™ technology, drivers can make corrections to their map and benefit from thousands of corrections made by over 40 million TomTom users every day – free of charge.

Over 5 million Map Share™ corrections have been made worldwide to date. Through Map Share™, a driver can: block and unblock a street, reverse traffic direction, edit a street name, change turn restrictions, change road speed, add a missing Point of Interest (POI), edit a POI, and report another error.

Fab battery life GPS 28 Nov 2010
    By ALanW
    Model:Urban Rider Europe
Took this round Germany in September, straight out of the box. Previous GPS was a TT Mobile5 on a Nokia phone. Just love the glove friendly screen. What's to like?
    - post code address finder works
    - options for non-motorway and "winding" roads (this is for bikers) and boy did I have fun in Germany in the Eifl mountains
    - quick to recalculate if you go off route ie miss a turn
    - clear loud voice
    - easy bluetooth link into my Intaride (like Autocom) unit. Don't bother with the optional headset they are not waterproof according to a friend.
    - links to my phone as well works with music-player.
    - Screen is bright in sunlight and the 4x3 size is plenty big enough. Don't be impressed by Garmin's wide screen, it takes up too much room on the bars.
    - battery life is 6-7 hours which is impressive (but seen annoying recharge below)
    - smooth and accurate cursor.
    - lane guide is superb
    - IQ map updates are good idea and camera updates. I do mine monthly
    - PC link is good, but I have yet to work out desktop route planning and downloading with Tyre.
    - Menus are plentiful and you can customise the bits you want to use regularly from the map screen when you touch the "glove" symbol. Nice tricks are route recorder and trip speeds, max speed, av speed, total distance.

    Not to like:
    - being ripped off £40+ extra for the charger mount for the bike. DONT BOTHER. See battery life above. Instead I bought a £5 mini USB car charger and stopped for a coffee and left it charging on the bike, locked in the storage box. You can even stick it in the tank bag and just follow the voice instructions whicle it charges up - not bad out of town but a bit tricky in the back streets!
    - TomTom do sell a lead for £7 - this only connect the bike to the charger mount, but their sales information is misleading (no pun) as this does not fit the TT Urban rider.
    - so you can't charge the TT Urban Rider with a normal lead when its mounted on the standard mount.

    Overall:
TT Urban Rider has to be the best value and performance. I spent a lot of time comparing units and features, and this is the kit that does what it says. and but for the charger cable I'd give it 5*

    Good device 19 Jun 2011
    Model:Urban Rider Europe
Arrived nicely packed. Switched on & off it went, no problems at all. Follow the instructions & the updates work fine.
Bike mount very straightforward. Spend a little time just setting the positioning so it's where you want it. Mine's fitted to a Suzuki Bandit and just obscures the bottom of the Rev counter (no great shakes).
Now the rip-off: I knew it didn't come with the on-bike charging mount and I wasn't going to pay £50 for one so got a £5 usb car charger and 12v car socket. Wired the socket to the battery under seat, plugged in the usb cable to the charger, routed the cable which came with the TT under tank and up to the mount. Next remove the mount and attach the TT, mark on the mount where the flap on the TT is and cut away just enough of the plastic to ensure the flap can open with the TT in the mount. You then have the TT mounted securely with the charging cable attached. You now have the TT charging the whole time - no fear of a flat battery & you can dismount the device and take it with you when you leave the bike. Make sure you cover the end of the usb cable with a rubber so it doesn't get wet when the TT is not in its mount. One of the spare rubber covers supplied with the assortment of hardware works a treat.
About an hours work & under a tenner and youv'e saved £60 odd pounds overall. Really works well.

While it's working, it's great. But even with the power saving mode on, you do not get the claimed 8 hours battery life in normal UK temperatures. I'm getting 3 - 5 hours on a 4 week old unit. TomTom claim that they are working on a software update for this, but there is no sign of it yet.

More importantly, this unit does not come with a way of charging it on the bike. You can buy an optional charger, but TomTom have been out of stock for months now with no indication when they are getting them in. Other vendors have them for sale, but normally for more than GBP70, so make sure you budget for this as well!
