This is a great product until it goes wrong. The system is intuitive and quick. If it goes wromng you are in trouble. Sent a broken(refused to function)one back to Tom Tom. they returned it in the same state and said all was fine! Looked as if they had not even attemoted to turn it on. As when you turned it on the unit would not work. Find a reason to contact the customer support and see how bad it is. The customer support line seems to have a policy of keeping you waiting 7 minutes once you are connected.

I got this sat nav as an early xmas present and have been pleasantly surprised, given that it has had mixed reviews. I have found it an absolute breeze to use, working straight out of the box with virtually no setting up at all. It picks up an excellent signal from around 7-8 satellites most of the time and the instructions are clear and given well in advance. The unit is very small and neat, ideal for just popping in your pocket when you leave. I've had no problem with the windscreen mount unlike some people, although I may purchase a vent mounting so it isn't so obviously sat in the window for thieves to see! Planning a route is very straightforward via 'navigate to..' using current position as departure point or from any other location using the 'A-B prepare route' in the main menu. It has loads of customisable features and includes speed camera warnings which can be updated on line with a £20 charge. I have, however, had a problem updating my unit with the most up-to-date maps. I would definitely recommend creating a back up copy of the existing map before you delete it from the unit and download the new one, because if it doesn't download correctly, like mine didn't, you might lose all maps!

I bought the TomTom One v3 three weeks ago. I was going to be doing a lot of driving in unfamiliar territory around Glasgow and district. (I also intend using the European mapping when on holiday in hire cars). Verdict - brilliant. Very intuitive and easy to use. I bought the TomTom One as it appeared to be the most basic on offer. I didn't want bluetooth hands free phone compatibilty, mp3 player, radio volume muting etc. etc. Just a device that tells you how to get from A to B. It does just that. It makes the odd mistake at roundabouts but quickly recalculates and sorts it out. Definitely recommended.
I don't like it stuck to the windscreen. It falls off and would be a target for theft if not removed every time you leave the car. Mine works perfectly stuck in a storage space in the dashboard beside the gear lever. The maps are not as visible as they would be when stuck to the windscreen but the voice commands are excellent and all you really need anyway.
Security advice - I was given this advice by a friend. Don't put your complete home address into a sat nav. Why? Well if your car is stolen and the sat nav is inside it, the thief can key in 'navigate home' and is directed to your house. He knows the house is probably unoccupied as you are busy at the police station reporting your stolen car!!
