Format: Paperback
Tom Weir was one of the most significant Scots of his generation, a generation that saw out two world wars and entered our thinking into the areas of ecology, conservation, and our place in the world. This collection of writings from the whole of his life is a revelation. Those who know him as the canty figure stravaiging through Weir's Way will find that he was a very serious explorer and mountaineer, active in the Himalayas and arctic Norway. Others will perhaps be more interested in his rise from humble origins to be an instantly recognised figure wherever he went. Always entertaining and informative, this book provides an accurate portrait of a life lived to the full. Hamish Brown has done a brilliant job of collecting and selecting not only the prose pieces, but also some of the most interesting and fine photographs to be found in any Scottish outdoor book.
