It could be said that Tom Percival had an unconventional childhood in a remote and beautiful part of South Shropshire. But you just as easily rephrase that by saying that he grew up in a ramshackle and freezing-cold caravan with no electricity or heating. Whichever way you look at it, these formative years are almost certainly what first got him interested in writing and drawing.
The first books that Tom ever loved were the Tim and the Hidden People series by Sheila McCullagh, which featured a magical cat called Tobias. It all seemed VERY real at night, in a draughty caravan, reading by gaslight in a howling gale.
After trying a few cities on for size, he decided that deep down he had always been a country boy and now he lives on the edge of Rodborough common in Gloucestershire with his girlfriend and their two young sons.
Tom has produced covers and internal illustrations for the Skulduggery Pleasant series of books as well as for the Chronicles of Egg series by Geoff Rodkey and Shiverton Hall by Emerald Fennell. He has also illustrated titles by Anthony Horowitz, Pete Johnson, Alexadro Adornetto and a whole host of other people.
Tom has three picture books currently available, 'Tobias and the Super Spooky Ghost Book', 'A Home for Mr Tipps' and 'Jack's AMAZING Shadow'.
His next book, 'Herman's Letter' will follow in October 2013 and is published by Bloomsbury.
