After owning (and enjoying) the 6 disc DVD "Collector's Edition" for a number of years, I decided to purchase this Blu-ray, and I must say, I am NOT disappointed.
Yes, there is a little graininess on some of the shorts which I suppose couldn't have been avoided, but most of these classic cartoons really pop out of your screen with renewed lush colours. Also, perhaps following the lead of the 'Disney Treasures' sets, these are presented in the original uncut format, complete with Lillian Randolph's hilarious "Mammy Two-Shoes". Of course, this does mean that some of the shorts depict certain racial stereotypes that may have been accepted at the time, but as the blurb at the beginning of the discs say: airbrushing them out of history would be like saying they didn't exist at all. Kudos to Warner for doing this!
The commentaries also are absolutely first class, providing some lovely insights into the animation processes that went into these cartoons.
With a total of 114 Tom & Jerry shorts made, and this set presenting the first 37 of them, I'm assuming there should be another two similar sets to make up the entire collection. I hope Warner feel that the success of this first Blu-ray set convinces them to put out the rest, as this really is collection to treasure.
