Product Description

Product Description

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell grants players access to the highest echelons of national security, where shadowy operatives have the freedom to do whatever it takes to safeguard America. The player controls Sam Fisher, a field operative of a secretive black-ops NSA sub agency called Third Echelon. Sam Fisher is geared up to infiltrate high-security strongholds, seize critical intelligence, destroy threatening data, and neutralise the enemy--all without leaving a trace. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Amazon.co.uk Review

Author Tom Clancy has written some fine novels, and UbiSoft has written some great games based on these works; Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is one such release. This one is a bit different, however: it models itself on that champion of espionage Metal Gear Solid 2, which, as it happens, is a good thing.

As Sam Fisher, you're out to save the world from international terrorism. In doing this, stealth is of paramount importance. Splinter Cell makes terrific use of light and shadows in this regard. If Sam Fisher stays in the dark, he is less likely to be seen; but, equipped with night-vision goggles, you're not hindered by the lighting effects. It's a clever system that creates some memorable scenes and adds to the sensation of being undercover.

Splinter Cell is a supremely balanced game. The initial training received is just long enough, gameplay is perfectly weighted between stealth and action and the blend of different objectives within missions ensures that the experience never becomes a chore. This is as compelling a spy game as you'll ever play. --Jonti Davies

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best games ever? 4 July 2004
Format:Video Game
Splinter cell is an excellent game where you are playing as a guy names Sam Fisher who is a splinter cell. What do you have 2 do? Basicly you have to find out about some guy who is very important and his body guards. He is running some stuff that could cause military outbreak and war. You have to stop this from happening. The levels are creepy and some of the levels it is just almost pure silent. You may suddenly hear someone and almost jump out of your skin! Also it wouldn't be a good idea to kill all the bad guys as you may need to interrogate them to get codes, use their eyes as retinal scanners to get through doors, or even just use them as shields as the enemy won't want to hurt their own team mates!
You can rapple down walls, shoot through glass hang above an unsuspecting enemy and jump on them. If you like stealth and action games then this is for you if you don't then you will probably still like it. Although i haven't played the sequel yet i am going to buy it but make sure you own this game!

2.0 out of 5 stars hmm its a bit of a let down really!! 12 Dec. 2003

well i thought this game was a bit of a let down to be honest! i mean i was expecting a hard game that was meant to be challenging but i was left bitterly disappointed! Splinter cell took me about 12hours to complete on the normal setting and on the hardest setting it took about 13! The graphics were pretty average really and the lack of weaponary too was slightly annoying. On the up side it had an above average AI which is very rare in these types of games! All in all splinter cell just reaches half marks in my opinion!!

Format:Video Game
Splinter Cell is one of the best first person stealth games you can buy. From the superb graphics and lighting effects to the addictive, realistic feel, this game is a must buy.I recommend this game to more experienced gamers and people with a lot of patience. It is one of those games that cannot be compared to others because of its great originality- if you want something different and very atmospheric BUY SPLINTER CELL!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK. . .but. . . 20 April 2004
Format:Video Game
I'd have to say one for stealth fans only. While the game looks and soundsfantastic there are a number of flaws which seriously hindered myenjoyment of the game.
First of all the controls, they are terrible, the main character SamFisher moves like he is running in slow motion and doing anything isfiddly and frustrating.
Second the camera is one of the worst I have come across - you have toconstantly adjust it, there is no way of centering it automatically youhave to move it manually all the time.
If you are a fan of stealth games then I would say you might like it ifyou can put up with the frustration of the controls and the camera -although you might be better off looking at other games like Metal GearSolid first.
If you are not a fan of stealth games then I would say steer well clear ofthis game as it will make you tear your hair out with frustration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!! 19 Jan. 2005
Format:Video Game
OK, i am a huge fan of MGS and thus i was worried that this game would let me down, but i am pleased to say it genuinly impressed me. the attention to detail is very good and they(ubisoft) have tried to make the game less fictional than some stealth titles.
the main comparison i found with MGS is that without a codec type system involved the game becomes a lot more independant and thus you have to find things out for yourself rather than use the codec and have the characters basicly tell you what to do throughout. though i would still pick MGS over Splinter Cell i would definately go back to the store to pick this one up.
however Sam Fisher aint no solid snake. but this game is more of a challenge but if you're an amateur you better be ready as there is not easy mode.
