Set in North Korea in the year 2011, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2 offers gamers an insider view of the way large-scale conflicts will be fought in the near future. The game will continue the tradition of intensity and realism associated with Ubisoft's Tom Clancy brand, with an emotionally charged storyline, a completely redesigned graphics engine and the most intuitive gameplay to date, to fully immerse gamers into the chaos of a high tech war. The game will offer white-knuckle tension and explosive action as it puts players in command of an elite squad of U.S. Special Forces.

I say I bought it because so many of the reviewers on amazon seem to review stuff they haven't even got !
It is one of the best games I've bought on the XBox.
Yes, the campaign level is very hard - but that's because you've got to be patient and work out where you're going to move to and how you're vulnerable. This really isn't a "charge around and shoot everything" kind of game - go and play HALO 2 if you want that. This is about working as part of a team.
Online it is spectacular. It is arguable that this game really comes into its own when you have a group of mates attempting to wipe out another team of people you don't even know ! There's nothing quite like that feeling online when the comms go quiet and you realise you are the only person left alive to face the enemy alone.
You will have to ignore the fact that the lobby areas are confusing and seem rushed design-wise, but get past that and you're onto a winner with no lag whatsoever.
Trust me - my standards are high with games like this and this one is very, very good indeed.

I am great fan of the original Ghost Recon, but I am sadly disappointed with the new Recon 2. It has some gorgeous graphics, but the AI of your troops and the enemy is dull as dishwater. The mission is now totally linear as opposed to Recon 1 where you could choose how to attack each mission. Your troops are thick as theives, they take enemy fire without taking cover and rarely attack back effectively, leaving you to do all the work. The stealthy atmosphere of the original is totally lost as enemy run right at you without a care in the world, and even then sometimes they dont see you. Re-loading and changing weapons takes an age - yes ok its realistic, but its still annoying! Crouching, standing and lying down takes years as well. Not good when the enemy seem to be much better at it than you! This game feels, in two words: rushed / disappointing. This should have been excellent and I have been waiting all year for it. Take a look at Halo 2 for a sublime piece of coding heaven, the AI in Halo is what we should have here in Recon 2. Multiplayer is much better fun with a bunch of mates, at least then you have some brainpower in your troops and enemy! Fans of the original may be dissapointed. Dont play Halo 2 first then this after - do it the other way round!

I'm sure like many other gamers, I bought Halo 2 in anticipation of it being the best game on xbox and I like many other gamers that I know were very dissapointed. I rented ghost recon 2 just to try it out, and i was extremely happy with the game, the gameplay is great and so too are graphics and sounds. on Xbox live the game is very good, as it is very realistic and requires skill to play unlike Halo 2. Having rented this game, I have now purchased it and it is basically my favourite xbox game at the moment. This is a must have for any gamer who seeks a top class game.
Gameplay = 8/9
Sounds = 10
storyline = 8
Graphics = 10
Xbox live play = 10

This game is purely not realistic. Yes all the glossy weapons and gear look authentic enough but the gameplay is terrible. I'm moving, in the prone position (lying down), moving slowly in a dense wood at night. The enemy is a good 30m away and all of a sudden they start shooting, not only shooting but hitting me!! What is this game on? The enemy don't even have fancy guns or night vision how can they possibly see me.
Secondly the nemy troops are as good as you. They take about 2 or 3 hits to go down. This is alright in enclosed spaces like we saw in rainbow 6 but in a massive jungle its impossible. They come at you from all angles even if you've just been where they came from. All this coupled with the fact that your squad is expected to kill around 100 men each mission!!
Thirdly the missions you are set are similar to those of a normal infantryman platoon or possible a navy seals unit (20 men). Not those of a covert squad of lightly armoured troops. The real ghosts would be able to call in fighter bombers and artillery strikes anywhere they wanted.
So this game is confused as to what it wants to be. It tries to be a stealth shooter game but contradicts itself with the linear warfare missions and poor A.I of your squad. The enemies are very good so this loses the realism and my attention to this game.
However multiplayer is excellent because of the fact that your mates cannot see you in a forest at night while your lying down! Also the intensity of the game increases.
So in conclusion the game features
Squad based combat 4 men
Full range of weaponry available to the ghosts
Excellent multiplayer
11 missions more suited to medal of honour
Poor team A.I
Enemies who are superhuman
No understanding of the true sghosts whatsoever it appears, thats even if the ghost exist?
Buy this game at your peril- rainbow 6 much better

Because on xbox live this is one of the best co-op games out. Previous reviewers slate the A.I. of your squad in the single player which is a fair comment. However if you don't have a wealth of "live" friends you can manage the single player with your "dumb" team. There is a command for them to stay put if you don't want to give your position away whilst scouting and you should consider them more of a fire support team than your military equals. After all, you are cleverer than your xbox aren't you?
As for the enemy spotting you constantly, I have happily picked off several sentries with the suppressed sniper without their buddies noticing a thing, I've also been bush whacked by many a DPRK patrol. I think the Enemy A.I. and the overall difficulty of this game are balanced perfectly. It is hard enough to provide a real challenge and yet you always believe that you can complete each mission.
Graphically this game is near perfect with well rendered troops, weapons, vehicles and some really gorgeous landscapes. I must say I was very impressed with the "over the shoulder" view and your character model never hinders your view due to the clever camera positioning.
The attention to detail in some of the game objects is quite original e.g. you can set fire to a truck with a well placed shot in the fuel tank.
This is not a game for the "run and gun" crowd but if you want some tactics and thinking with your bullets you'll struggle to do better than Ghost Recon 2.
