To set the scene, I have always been a big fan of Tom Clancy games and owe many hours of my younger years to the original Ghost Recon back in 2001. GRFS was announced about 3 years ago *I think*, and although I have yet to play the multiplayer aspect, I for one think it was well worth wait.

First off, despite some reviews I haven't seen anything buggy, the game visually and technically seems very well polished. The gameplay feels fluid and uninhibited, something I had concerns about before it's release (given the amount of surveillance tech that can/should be used during combat).

Most impressively is the balance between stealth and action. I enjoyed BF3 and MW3 a lot, but they suffer from a one-man-army mentality that for me is a bit one dimensional. On the other hand, fully realistic battle simulators can be a bit OTT - we are talking about a game after all. GRFS seems to hit the balance between the two.

The story line does what it has to; an excuse to tackle different enemies all over the world. I maybe dont approach games in the same way as a film, for example I dont really care about character building cut scenes etc.

Overall I think the developers took a risk with some of the innovations here and possibly cost themselves some customers, so be it, you can't please everybody. I feel lucky to be one of those pleasantly surprised.

Having never played a Ghost Recon game prior to buying this game, I had no idea what to expect.
Upon playing it I was very pleasantly surprised. The game is like a cross between Splinter Cell Conviction and Rainbow Six Vegas.
Stealth elements permeate the gameplay, making for a more cerebral shooter. You can't rush in all guns blazing (unlike Call Of Duty, or Gears Of War). You really do have to plan your next move.
The campaign mode is fairly short, but very challenging. Multiplayer is great (once you get used to the different game modes).
I have put many hours into this game and would highly recommend it.

I had high expectations of this game and they were very much met!
The strategical gameplay kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole of the awesome campaign, the weapon customisation makes the gun choice suit any scenario so the missions are easier to complete. It is filled with tasks to complete that unlock more content and has lots of other game modes to play.
The graphics immerse you in the scene of the action because they're great, the movement options are good and encourage you to take cover behind objects and use your team more effectively. The gameplay is fast paced and if you're not focused enough you could lose your life, but the good news is that if you do get shot you can be revived by team mates (note that this is on occasion).

Like I said before; I would recommend to anybody because I'm sure they'll have a great time playing Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.

The influence of recently successfully games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare are obvious, from the russian elements of the story and the 'just for show' gun camouflage to heavy multilayer focus. So if you loved the previous Advanced Warfighter games, then this possibly isn't for you.

The cover system works better than ever, and moving from one to the other is relatively fluid.
It's nice to choose from any weapon you like before each level, it will still suggest preferable guns and attachments. (I say any gun, you have to unlock most of them throughout the game) The problem with this is, so that you have a reasonably amount of customization, you can no longer just change from silenced to loud, or fully automatic to single shot mid level. This feels like a major step back.
Speaking of which, instead of using a drone on the level map to find targets, you now pilot it your self which is more often tedious than fun. Sensor grenades at least good, providing a quick and easy way of designating targets, but does have to take the place of either smoke/frag etc.

The single player campaign is essentially a shorter more russian version of the GRAW story line. It's hard to get a good idea of who any one is in this, it took a long time before I was even sure which of the ghost was supposed to be me.

On the xbox, graphics are rather patchy with certain items often taking several seconds to render properly.

The end of level big climactic shoot outs are very hit and miss. On some occasions (the better ones) it turns in to a rail shooter, moving for you whilst you protect a VIP. On others, particularly when you've done the whole level stealthily up to that point and so you're only decent weapon is a silenced one, this drops allot from these fights.

Let me begin by saying that my Ghost Recon experience began with its Advanced Warfighter debut on XBOX 360. Then I went down the timeline to play them on XBOX, PS2, PC etcetera. And then I found this. Despite the trailer with a tart trying to sell her body and this game to me, I still rented this thinking "who in their right mind buys a game because 'some hot girl' told me to?".

In all, it's nothing like the previous games. In fact, it's any Rainbow Six VEGAS' player's worst nightmare. It's a casual shooter, which I'm fine with. But it doesn't have any squad command, any reason to use tactics and requires you to see your enemy's zits on their foreheads in order to kill them. Indeed, there's no "realism" or "thrill of the hunt". There's no danger if a slow moving vehicle runs away because let's face it, a pebble in this game could take down a tank.

I'm frustrated by how underwhelming the gameplay was, loosening the screws so it can get to a wider audience. Tom Clancy players weren't attracted because they weren't Tom Clancy players. Leave them be. Let us have fun and feel like Couch Commandos. However if you're looking for an easy going, TPS experience, look no further.

Decent, though it turned out to be a major disappointment for GR fans.

The Verdict:

7 out of 9 - Average yet fun, but not worth the full price. Get it in a sale.
