This six-disc box set draws together all six volumes of the Tom and Jerry Classic Collection and is packed with nearly nine hours of cartoon capers from everyone's favourite cat and mouse.
Volume 1
Collecting together the works of each producer, Classic Collection Volume 1 starts with the cartoons of the great Fred Quimby and also includes the Hanna Barbera years 1940-1958. Hollywood legend Quimby is largely regarded as creator of the very best Tom and Jerry episodes. He won seven Academy Awards for various Tom and Jerry shorts and received numerous nominations for his animated works.
Volume 2
Tom and Jerry Classic Collection Volume 2continues with the works of Hollywood legend Fred Quimby, who worked closely with Hanna Barbera and together they set the high standard of animation, music, timing and humour for which Tom and Jerry are renowned. Classic Collection 2 includes the Academy Award-winning cartoon shorts "The Cat Concerto" and "The Little Orphan", the Academy Award-nominated "Dr Jekyll and Mr Mouse" and "Hatch Up Your Troubles", plus 20 other classics.

Great collection, but yes there are a lot of cuts here, and in some of the very best cartoons. The worst offender is the Oscar-winning "The Little Orphan", in which the whole climactic sequence has had to be butchered and re-edited - ruined, really - to accommodate the excision of a blackface gag. (Oddly though, "Mouse Cleaning" and "Casanova Cat", the two cartoons with the most blatant blackface gags, are included unscathed. If you want to get upset by a 50-year old cartoon, there's your chance.)
These cartoons aren't just fun diversions for the kids, they're important pieces of cultural history. We might not like some of the attitudes they reflect, but to pretend they never existed is to invite them to return. If you're afraid of offending anyone, add a disclaimer or a warning on the disc. Publishers of classic cartoons should keep their grubby scissors away from them - especially if they're going to present them as a "Collector's Edition".

this dvd set hasn't been given 3 stars because of the dvds themselves: tom and jerry need no introduction, classic cartoons for all ages. makes a change from playing the old videos.
no, the reason for this review is due to the title of the dvd set: it clearly states the words "complete collection." this particular collection is anything but complete: for some inexplicable reason, two cartoons have been omitted. one of them is "million dollar cat," the other one i don't know. it makes me feel as though i've been slightly swindled. however, it is still possible to buy these missing cartoons on the region 1 releases. beware of the above.

I'd suggest avoiding this set (like the previous reviewer said) it's missing episodes, so 'complete' collection is misleading to say the least! It also has many episodes butchered to suit the political correctness brigade. The cartoons were made in the 40's and 50's and that should be taken on board for a collectors release.
I'd suggest buying the 'uncut' VHS videos such as 50th Birthday Collection, available on Amazon from various sellers. As an adult collector, I'm skipping these DVD's and getting the uncut VHS versions, until this is released properly!

Grandson was delighted
Not so easy to get a good quality copy of Tom and Jerry. Since cable is showing the older cartoons my Grandson is quite taken with this golden oldie.
