Book Description

Over 200 mouthwatering recipes for simple, easy informal food from one of the UK's most exciting chefs

Product Description

Tom Aikens is undoubtedly one of the UK's most talented chefs. His first restaurant, Tom Aikens, has received huge critical acclaim and was awarded a Michelin star a year after opening, sealing Tom's reputation as a culinary leading light. Tom also drummed up a further legion of fans with the opening of Tom's Kitchen - an informal all-day brasserie serving familiar and rustic dishes. It is this simple, homely style of cooking that Tom focuses on in his new book. With over 200 recipes there's something for every occasion, from fast fixes, such as Peppered Steaks with Crushed Roast Garlic or Spiced Mullet Soup with Paprika and Chorizo; to twists on classic comfort food such as Ham and Mustard Macaroni, Toasted Sourdough with Aubergine, Basil and Sheep's Cheese and Lamb Rump with Rosemary Polenta and Parmesan. There's also a chapter for weekend cooking - pies, slow-roasts and hearty fare - and one on how to get creative with your leftovers. Other highlights are Tom's irresistible desserts: Prune and Armagnac Brioche Pudding, Caramel Mousse and Golden Syrup Sponge. The emphasis is on simplicity - recipes that can be prepared and cooked without any hassle or fuss, making cooking a pleasure rather than a chore. Beautifully illustrated with specially commissioned photography and a fresh, striking design, this is set to be a must-have cookery title.

Well laid out and easy to use. However the meals are quite pricey with, in most cases, lots of ingredients. I am going to attempt to cut down on ingredients and make my own variations- I'm a student- but I'm sure most who buy this wouldn't find this an issue. It seems that all the recipes are on one page (which is so much easier to use than when you have to turn a page!). Personally I feel most of the recipes are for 'fancy' meals however there are many which are less so and that wouldn't take too long to prepare. The book is divided into 'Healthy starts', 'light bites', 'fast fixes', 'something for the weekend', 'leftovers', 'something on the side' and 'something sweet'. I love the cover, photographs and ideas within it. A nice cookery book :)

We have 2 shelves of cookbooks from all around the world. I cook every single day for the family. We are so impressed by this book from Tom Aikens, and have found it amazing that every recipe we've cooked so far has been so incredibly nice! It's not always like that with cookbooks.

I find it really strange that someone has gave it a 1 star review, that is crazy! I only assume they have picked a bad recipe, and maybe did it wrong. Seriously. I've never left a cookbook a review, but I felt so inclined to do so here.

Buy this book, it'll be your best friend in the kitchen for a long time!

Try the lamb and sweet onion pita recipe, so tasty. ;)

Excellent simple cookbook for everyday use. Perfect for throwing hassle free meals together after a long day. Recipes are very simple to follow and most are quick to produce. Some of my favourites are:

Chicken marinated in yoghurt and mint with lime rice

Lemon couscous with lemon marinated mackerel

Lamb fillet with Spicy couscous

Bream marinated in soy and ginger

Lamb Provencal with 5 herbs

Looking forward to trying some of the other recipes out shortly.
