An informative reference book, well written,
This review is from: Tolley's Managing Stress in the Workplace (Paperback)
** PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A CORRECTED VERSION OF THE REVIEW SUBMITTED EARLIER. (LAST WORD OF THE FIRST PARA SHOULD HAVE READ 'LITTLE UNDERSTOOD' NOT 'MISUNDERSTOOD'._______________________________________________________ There are very few really informative books I have found on this subject that are devoid of gratuitous psycho-babble, but this is one. Written in plain English and with an easily absorbed style, I found it to be interesting and helpful in its comprehensive coverage of a subject that is, (in my experience as an HR director), all too often little understood. I particularly liked the clear layout and the enumerated points to remember at the end of each chapter (although one or two of the short quotations at the beginning of some chapters, left me scratching my head as to their perceived relevance). However, the excellent case-studies, illustrating many of the points raised in the text, are a good example of how books on a comparatively difficult subject such as this, should be approached with the reader firmly in mind. Overall, an excellent management guide that was long overdue and that should be, I would think, a valuable resource for both professionals and non-professionals alike. If I were an employer, I would certainly have a copy on my shelf - not least to ensure that my firm was compliant with current employment legislation and that I would not find myself in the position of being on the wrong end of a substantial compensation claim!
