Book Description

A man has been murdered. He is blond, blue-eyed and is wearing a white suit. His surname is White. The murdered man is dark, black-eyed and his suit is black...the same as his surname. And, as if that isn't enough, they look like perfect twins except for the details of eye colour and complexion. Two policemen are in charge of the hottest crime in London. They will cross a sea of intrigue to find out that two gangs in the city have declared war on each other and that more murders are to follow. A bizarre couple is at the epicentre of the mystery: an old man with violet-coloured eyes and a ten-year-old boy, who have the peculiar habit of only talking to each other and never addressing anybody else.

Nothing is as it should be. Not everything is black or white.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, poor translation. 18 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has got a clever and original "supernatural" storyline (which I won't spoil for you by revealing). Could have benefited from better research on British life and habits (how on earth can somebody be brutally killed one day and buried the very next in London?). The names of the characters don't really ring true for a book based on British characters, and the grammar (or translation) is not great. I particularly laughed at "upholstering a gun" - an image of fancy furnishing fabric and gold braid immediately popped into my head!!! However the story is novel, and engaging, and its worth reading if you are prepared to overlook the poor use of English.

2.0 out of 5 stars London is not New York 23 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Neat idea and basically well written but oh dear, the author has no idea of Britain. Our police do not wave guns around like this, and at a hundred other points the lack of understanding of UK society throws you of the story. A shame. Re-written and set in an american city would be fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 22 Jun. 2011

I'm glad I got this Kindle book free as I thought it was awful. I didn't get involved with the characters and didn't really care whether they lived or died. I continued reading to the end, not because I was interested to see what happened to the people, but just because I wanted to see how the author wound it up. And when the explanation came of what it had all been about, I just thought "how ridiculous". I know it was a sort of fantasy read but it still seemed silly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting concept and quite a good story. 24 May 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Aiden is a cop who lost his wife in a car accident five years earlier. An accident which he miraculously managed to survive despite being in a coma and having had trauma to his spine too. His police partner is Lance. They are called to investigate the murder of a Mr Black, who has been decapitated in front of his wife by a man dressed in white wielding a medieval sword. A serious of strange murders appear to be happening in London and it seems that two gangs are fighting each other. Who is in control of the gangs? Why is Big Ben working erratically ( the clock is stopping for no reason)?
There is an element of the supernatural and surreality in this book.

All in all would give it 3 and a half stars.

Regarding some points mentioned by others-
1. The author is evidently not British and doesn't live in London...but has chosen London as the setting for his book. I absolutely have no problems with the fact he doesn't have facts right regarding next-day funerals or policemen with guns as this book for me is surrealistic and I would not expect facts to be 100% correct or else I would be here questioning a lot of other things that he has written in this book.
2. Translation- There are some typos in this kindle edition and also the translation could be improved in some areas. There are some basic mistakes in this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting 5 Jun. 2011

I thought this story was cleverly written and enjoyed the twists and turns. As previous reviews noted some of the events would not be possible in London. However, I did enjoy this book and I would recommend it.
