'This powerful and compelling memoir about living with multiple personality disorder is the first of its kind in the UK.' --Northern Scot Midweek
'Moving and ultimately inspiring, this is a gripping account of a rare condition and the remarkable story of a courageous woman.' --Yorkshire Evening Post
Book Description
When Alice was a teenager, strange things started happening to her. Hours of her life simply disappeared. She'd hear voices shouting at her, telling her she was useless. And the nightmares that had haunted her since early childhood, scenes of men abusing her, became more detailed . . . more real. Staring at herself in the mirror she'd catch her face changing, as if someone else was looking out through her eyes. In Today I'm Alice, she describes her extraordinary journey from a teenage girl battling anorexia and OCD, drowning the voices with alcohol, to a young woman slipping further and further into mental illness. It was only after years lost in institutions that she was correctly diagnosed with multiple personality disorder. When her alternative personalities were revealed in therapy she discovered how each one had their own memories of abuse and a full picture of her childhood finally emerged. As she learned to live with her many 'alters', she set out to confront the man who had caused her unbearable pain. Moving and ultimately inspiring, this is a gripping account of a rare condition, and the remarkable story of a courageous woman.
When a child is being abused,it is so hard for them to tell anyone else[for fear of not being believed] YOU MUST TELL GO TO THE POLICE,TEACHER PHONE CHILD LINE dont have to put up with it. Nowadays things are more easier for children, than they were in my days, 6os 70s 80s 90s
I myself was seriously abused by various bodies, and I am now today more mentally better than I have ever been. This book tells a story of a young girl being abused by her so called[care giver] and for her to escape the absolute horror, she developed various other persons, to help her cope with the horror she went through.
A really truthful and honest account of what this young girl went through, which no one should go through.
I hope today she has eventually found some peace in her self. She will never forget, but hopefully she can find some peace so she can get on with the rest of her life. LOLX
Dissociative Identity Disorder is well described here, with only limited descriptions of Ritual Abuse. I don't think it's very triggering or upsetting (if you are used to reading about ritual abuse). It's a very hopeful, positive book
