More About the Author

Andy McNab joined the infantry as a boy soldier. In 1984 he was 'badged' as a member of 22 SAS Regiment and was involved in both covert and overt special operations worldwide.

During the Gulf War he commanded Bravo Two Zero, a patrol that, in the words of his commanding officer, 'will remain in regimental history for ever'. Awarded both the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) and Military Medal (MM) during his military career, McNab was the British Army's most highly decorated serving soldier when he finally left the SAS in February 1993. He wrote about his experiences in three books: the phenomenal bestseller Bravo Two Zero, Immediate Action and Seven Troop.

He is the author of the bestselling Nick Stone thrillers. Besides his writing work, he lectures to security and intelligence agencies in both the USA and UK. He is a patron of the Help for Heroes campaign.

Book Description

A deeply personal slice of autobiography from the bestselling author of Bravo Two Zero published to support Quick Reads' campaign for literacy

About the Author

From the day he was found in a carrier bag on the steps of Guy's Hospital, Andy McNab has led an extraordinary life. As a teenage delinquent, he kicked against society. As a young soldier he waged war against the IRA in the streets and fields of South Armagh. As a member of 22 SAS he was at the centre of covert operations for nine years – on five continents. During the Gulf War he commanded Bravo Two Zero, a patrol that, in the words of his commanding officer, 'will remain in regimental history for ever'. Awarded both the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) and Military Medal (MM) during his military career, Andy McNab was the British Army's most highly decorated serving soldier when he finally left the SAS.

Since then Andy McNab has become one of the world’s bestselling writers, drawing on his insider knowledge and experience. As well as three nonfiction bestsellers, he is the author of the bestselling Nick Stone thrillers. Besides his writing work, he lectures to security and intelligence agencies in both the USA and UK , works in the film industry advising Hollywood on everything from covert procedure to training civilian actors to act like soldiers and he continues to be a spokesperson and fundraiser for both military and literacy charities.

Andy McNab's short biographical account gives an insight into his early life, the tough regime of army life and how his life progressed from thereon.
This is an inspiring read. McNab had a bad start in life and joining the army and the tough regime of army life was the best thing for him.
I enjoyed reading about Andy's experiences in the army education centre and how his new literacy skills helped to develop his career.
One of the beauties of the Quick Read series is being able to read a book by an author that I wouldn't normally bother with and I know it will be written in a straightforward and no-nonsense style.
The Quick Reads are definitely worth checking out.

Most of the content of this book is captured in McNab's other non fiction books. However, I am a big Andy McNab fan and only know that as I've read all his other books. If this is your first read of this author, it's an interesting read a a good incite to his life.
