These are marvellous performances. Record producer John Culshaw remembers this Tod und Verklaerung with the Paris Conservatoire orchestra in his memoirs, and rightly so! It's a deep, slow, brooding performance with lots of pathos. Don Juan, taken at a slower tempo than usual, is also magnificent, very refined and humorous. The Rienzi ouverture is pretty good and spirited, as for Parsifal ouverture and orchestral excerpts, well, Knapp was always in his element with this music. Add the clear, detailed remastering and this is a gem.
