for the 'HOPSCOTCH HISTORIES' book series.

From the inside cover page:-

'About this book:-
Most of the characters in this book are made up, but the subject is based on real events in history.
There then follows a paragraph containing a short summary of `The Great Fire of London', with a closing reference to:-
'Samuel Pepys (1633-1703), who saw the events and recorded them in his famous diary.'

From the back cover:-

'Master is cross when Toby forgets a delivery for Mr Pepys. As Toby races across the city he sees the sky is full of flames - London is burning!
Can he find Mr Pepys quickly and help save London from the fire?'

Colourful paperback covers open to 32 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format.
Numbered pages with clear, easy-to-follow text.
Illustrated throughout, this delightful book is further enhanced by meaningful facial expressions.

Example of text:-

'Toby was asleep after a long day's work. He lived above his master's shop in London.
"Toby! Get up!" shouted master. You've left the book for Mr Pepys here, foolish boy! Take it at once, it's for his diary!"
"Oh no!" cried Toby. He leapt out of bed, grabbed the book and ran out into the street.....'

and off he goes, but all is not well on the streets of London...... with clouds of smoke and a red sky......whatever is going on?
How do Toby, King Charles II, Mr Pepys and many other helpers get on with the emergency and is all well at the end?

There are a number of 'HOPSCOTCH' stories to choose from and these are listed on the very last page, including the following from the 'HOPSCOTCH HISTORY' series:-

Remember the 5th November
Pocahontas the Peacemaker
Grandma's Seaside Bloomers

'HOPSCOTCH has been specially designed to fit the requirements of the National Literacy Strategy. It offers real books by top authors and illustrators for children developing their reading skills. '
