This is the first 3 LP's Al Stewart made, plus, to start, the A & B-side of his first single The Elf, the less said about which the better, except Turn Into Earth, the B-side, is a stunning and forgotten gem that Al never repeated again.
The format is CD 1- Bedsitter Images, as per 1967 CBS vinyl, followed by the 2 new tracks when Al re-recorded it in 1970, then Side 1 of Love Chronicles.
CD 2:- Side 2 of Love Chronicles, plus the entire Zero She Flies.
The only shame is that the re-recorded Bedsitter Images isn't here in full-the string quartet backing of the original was much improved on the 2nd try, by the simple expedient of being omitted from it!
Even so, Bedsitter has a number of good points and showed promise, Love Chronicles is by far the strongest of the 3 albums & the 18-minute title track still packs a wallop, whilst Zero She Flies is a marking-time album, but with plenty of class.
I personally think the next 3 albums, Orange/Past Present & Future/Modern Times, Al recorded were his absolute zenith. The reason for that feeling is that not a single track on those 3 just drifts by you & never has.
Even so, there is too much cracking stuff here to ignore & you can probably forgive the inclusion of the flaming Elf, too!
