When Lord Gregor MacLean learns his childhood friend, Venetia Oglivie, has been abducted by a fortune hunter, he rides off to Scotland in hot pursuit. If he doesn't rescue the provocative wench swiftly, she'll be ruined by the scandal! But when an irate Gregor catches up with her, arrogantly expecting a hero's welcome, the sparks between him and the strong-willed Venetia begin to fly. And while they're trapped by an unexpected snowstorm, those sparks grow so hot they could burn the inn down! Now if Gregor can only convince Venetia that his motive for marriage isn't duty, but desire...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lord Ravencroft cons Lady Venetia Oglivie 21 Dec 2007
Format:Mass Market Paperback
to accompany him to the Scottish border; his nefarious plot is to get her to Gretna Green and force her to wed him. Venetia realizes his scheme and vows to suffer from a scandal than wed this bland fortune hunter. However, before she can escape back to London, a blizzard leaves her and other travelers stranded at an inn.

Venetia's childhood friend Lord Gregor MacLean learns of her "abduction" and is outraged. He rides like hell in the wintry weather planning to rescue Venetia. He charges up to her at the inn and is euphoric she is okay and unmarried. As their love surfaces, Venetia rejects his proposal as she assumes he does so out of honor and duty; Gregor needs to persuade her that it out of desire and need with his plan being one heated kiss at a time.

The latest MacLean historical romance (See HOW TO ABDUCT A HIGHLAND LORD) is an enjoyable battle between the sexes. Ironically readers know Gregor loves Venetia before he does because of how he fumes and drops everything to rescue her. When he finally accepts what his heart has told the audience, he has a mountain higher than the Highlands to climb as he must persuade Venetia is loves her and wants her not just because he is a principled person doing the honorable thing. Karen Hawkins provides an entertaining MacLean romance!! I'd also recommend reading Tino Georgiou's bestselling novel--The Fates--if you haven't yet!

1.0 out of 5 stars Too much going on. 10 Dec 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Aargh! Where do I start? I keep giving Karen Hawkins a chance but maybe I should give up. This was not her worse but it's close enough. Gave her a star for effort and good plot to begin with but along the way did she mess it up. Throw in a crying dad, a silly yound fop and several others who dod not give the hero or heroine a word in edgewise. Their story was all over the place, there was no depth( which I was looking forward to reading as our main characters have known each other for 29 years. Yes the heroine is in her early 30s which doesnt gel well) with the main characters, secondary or the story. You dont get to know them much to care about them. I enjoyed scenes with the Maclean brothers and the heroine's grandmother than I did the rest of them.

If you cant get this book from a library, you're not missing much in skipping it.

5.0 out of 5 stars couldnt put it down 17 Feb 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
what a wonderful thing a snow storm can be!!! venetia ogilvie has been abducted and is on her way to gretna green to married to ravenscroft. she doesnt realise it at the time, but her oldest friend gregor maclean is hot on her heels to rescue her. but due to an unforseen snow storm they are stuck in an inn until the roads clear. cabin fever takes over and they indulge in some heated flirting and some passionate kisses and even their companions in the inn start to get in on the act too. great story that i just couldnt put it down. great lead characters as they are already great friends so you can see from the start that they are made for each other. also the minor characters are so funny and stereotypical down the grandmama who is a hoot and a half!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ex-Library Book In Large Print. 17 Jan 2014
By Susie
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Having had these books in standard paperback format in standard size print, I was happy to find them in the Larger Print Format for my elderly Parents who enjoy this writers books for the romance, adventure and humor. After peeling away stickers and bar-codes the books were in very good condition, I was happy to take them to Scotland as gifts for my parents who were very pleased they were in Large Print Format which meant they could comfortably read without having to search for there glasses. I could only find 3 of the series of 5 in Large Print format and would like to find more large print books by this author.
The Books arrived within the estimated time, Were in good condition, and well packaged.

5.0 out of 5 stars To Scotland, With Love 2 Sep 2007
By MNix - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Gregor MacLean and Venetia Oglivie have been best friends since they
were children, so when Venetia goes missing Gregor doesn't hesitate to
search for her. Unfortunately Gregors' temper has the ability to
create storms and when he does find her they, along with the other
patrons at the inn, become stranded until the snow melts and the road
becomes safe to travel again.

As the days go by Gregor and Venetia begin to see each other as more
than friends and desire begins to simmer between them. Gregor does not
want a wife or believe in love but when Venetia's reputation is at
risk he may have to sacrifice his freedom for his friend and Venetia
has no intention of marrying a man who does not love her, even if it
is her handsome, beloved best friend.

To Scotland, With Love is a heartwarming and entertaining story.
Surrounded by a cast of engaging and amusing characters, Gregor and
Venetia fall in love. Their emotions are vividly expressed as their
friendship develops into something more. Venetia is endearing. She is
sweet and kind and Gregor is handsome and dashing. The way the sky
thundered when Gregor is angry is magical and powerful. To Scotland,
With Love is an enchanting love story!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but tends to be repetitive 29 Sep 2007
By RomanceReader - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is an ok romance. (The Scots emphasis in the title is neither relevant to nor a part of the story.) My criticism of this book is the page after page of repetitive mental musings: Gregor repeating to himself, essentially, "oh look she's a desireable woman how did I miss that she has grown up?" - once was enough to make the point - and Venetia "oh no I don't want to lose his friendship and if I act on my desire he'll lose interest". Again, once was enough to make the point. It got a little annoying and the musings were just the same thing over and over - so just skip those parts when you run into them the second, third, fourth, etc. times.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute humorous story 23 Jan 2009
By KSJ - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This is my first Karen Hawkins book, and won't be my last. I felt that it was very funny, the banter between hero and heroine funny and realistic. The romance was steamy, the main love scene tender. Well written, in a style similar to Julia Quinn and her "Bridgertons." The friendship seemed real. I thought knowing just stating that they knew eachother well was going to be hard to "prove"-I was wrong. These two knew eachother like best friends should.
What I didn't like is that there was some things that seemed unlikely to be accurate in a historical novel. The hero and heroine were best friends for 29 years. The hero is 36, the heroine 34. Neither have married; basically London and the Ton just accept their friendship the way it is. I can't imagine that would be likely. Also, being 36 myself, there was an immaturity to their thinking that... well... kind of bugged me. All that "He's just Gregor" drove me crazy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book II - MacLean Curse Series 25 Sep 2007
By cb - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Venetia Oglivie is always trying to help everyone and when she is tricked into leaving London with a fortune hunter Lord Gregor MacLean takes off to save her. Gregor can make it snow and since he angry regarding Venetia England has the worse snowstorm in history. While Gregor, Venetia and a cast of outlandish characters, dig out from the storm their friendship becomes so much more. I loved it this book and the series - laugh aloud moments, romance and great writing! Enjoy!

Check out the whole MacLean Curse Series How to Abduct a Highland Lord (1) To Scotland, With Love (2) , To Catch a Highlander (3) due out - Jan 22, 2008
