I have long been a fan of Karen Robards and this one is among her personal best I think. As a measure of how gripping it was, my mind kept going back to the story while I was at work and I had to slip out during an (extended) lunch break so that I could resume reading it. It has all the ingredients of a good romance: a strong thoroughly male hero, an intelligent, attractive heroine, and a suspenseful plot. Both characters have suffered greatly in the past and their getting together is a kind of redemption. Robards tends to use similar plot lines, particularly that of having the two protagonists on the run, sleeping rough - a fast track to intimacy. However, in this case, it works extremely well. The book did falter a little bit towards the end, but altogether it was a good read and I highly recommend it.
