Excellent notes. 18 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought these notes to help me revise for my GCSE English Literature exam at the end of May. I had looked at the reviews, and overall they seemed pretty good - so I went ahead and bought the book.

When it arrived I was pleasantly surprised at how good it actually was. There was an introduction to the book, and to Harper Lee herself. The first few pages had lots of useful information, along with a map of Maycomb which I found to be very helpful.

The next section was then divided into chapters, with a double-page spread for two or three chapters. There was a summary of the plot on these pages, with the main points to remember. There is then a section which explains why Harper Lee put these scenes in the plot, and finally on the opposite page, in-depth knowledge about the main scene/character in these few chapters.

Section three in this book was all about themes, and once again I found this section to be very helpful. It provided lots of in-depth detail necessary to do well in an English Literature examination.

There was also a section on the main characters, along with quotes and a summary of what happens to them throughout the novel.

Overall I would recommend this book to everyone wanting to pass their English Literature exam. It is a great book, with lots of detail and useful vocabularly. It tells you what you need to be writing to get a C grade, and what needs to be written to get an A grade. A great book overall.

I am a GCSE Student who used this excellent revision guide for my English Literature Exam, and it was an invaluable tool in guaranteeing a thorough understanding of the text and poise in the exam room.

The Chapter Summaries ensure a clear and coherent understanding of the story is maintainted, and the book is further broken down into Character Descriptions and comments on the key themes to ensure nothing is missed out

Quite good 14 July 2006
By J. Takata VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
I found York Notes to be a great aid for my GCSE English Literature exam. The presentation is clear, it has notes on themes, language, characters etc as well as chapter-by-chapter commentaries. Personally, I preferred the Letts notes over this one, but that is probably due to personal preference and this is definitely worth buying.
