'Wildly inventive stuff' Heat 'Gloriously, zanily ludicrous...unique, idiosyncratic and unclassifiable' The Guardian

Product Description

Karla Sorensen used to be big in horror films. In the sixties and seventies no self-respecting low-budget bloody schlocker shocker was complete without her. She was well-qualified; after all, at the age of ten, she sold her soul to the devil. Now, although spookily ageless, Karla is knocking on in years. Her residuals are drying up and she needs some cash, so she decides to return to the north of England to appear in Menswear, Britain's most risque TV soap opera. But not everyone's happy about her return to the fame game. Menswear's current star is heartthrob Lance Randall and he's furious to hear that Karla is about to become his co-star. He hates her, he fears her, and he's convinced that she's come to steal his very soul. Dark clouds are massing around town - and deep, dark, devilish secrets are about to be unleashed ... 'Wildly inventive stuff' Heat

Skull-poppingly good 17 July 2009
Format:Paperback
I read this book after Never the Bride and reread it some time after Something Borrowed. What a great discovery for any avid readers of Magrs' unique blending of tablecloths and macabre in Whitby. I had forgotten that Henry Cleavis gets a preview here and it is now essential back story to the forthcoming Hell's Belles. Karla Sorenson belongs right in there with Brenda, Effie (not the ones in Diva), Mrs Claus, the Manchus and the whole shebang of what's about to happen in Whitby this coming November. Grotesque and hilarious--especially the scene between Fox Soames and his Mum. I wonder who else may appear...

I count myself extremely lucky to have 'discovered' this Author, truly original, none of that standard, formulaic predictability that you sometimes get, even with good books and authors, all 4 books I have read so far are little gems of originality and just draw you in, I could not put it down until it was finished and then I went online to order the next one, a brilliant book, buy it, you will love it!

I read this book after I read the second Brenda and Effie book. I re-read the book after I had read Hells Belles, because I recognised the main characher of Karla Sorensen. The story revolves round a has been horror film star and her mysterious past. The story is quick moving, gothic and laugh out loud funny and I like the fact it is set in Manchester. Also running through the story is a touching love story between Lance and Colin. Brilliant as always.
