Product Description

Nicci Morrison was always the first of her friends to do everything…

But she wasn't meant to be the first to die.

Saying goodbye is never easy, but at least Nicci has one last chance to make a difference before she goes. She’s decided to leave letters giving her most treasured possessions to her closest friends.

To her single friend Mona she bequeaths her husband David, little knowing her best friend found The One a long time ago…To childless Jo, Nicci leaves the care of her three-year-old twin daughters. Jo however is finding it hard enough to cope with the fortnightly arrival of her stepsons. To Lizzie she leaves her garden. But while Lizzie is loyally tending Nicci’s plants, the parts of her own life that are in desperate need of attention are falling by the wayside.

But Nicci didn’t always know best, and she couldn’t
have imagined the changes and challenges her letters set in motion for the loved ones she’s left behind.

So many parallels with real life: this novel is inhabited by believable characters you feel you know after just a few chapters. An absorbing storyline which surprised in ways that were emotionally satisfying. I stayed up too late to continue reading; I was late for work the next day in order to finish it. And days later the characters are still in my head. Reading it was a beautiful, heart-wrenching experience.

Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Nicci Morrison has always been the lynch-pin holding her best friends - Jo, Lizzie and Mona - together. She, along with her husband David and twin girls, is the centre of their circle of friends, loving to have everyone around her for Sunday dinners and big occasions, and not shy of dishing out advice about fashion, relationships and anything else at the drop of a hat. So when she dies tragically young, her best friends are cut to the quick and mourn her loss. But Nicci, being Nicci, has already anticipated this, and leaves them each letters containing the most unusual bequests.
To childless Jo, Nicci leaves the duty of mothering her little girls. To unhappy Lizzie, Nicci leaves the care of her neglected garden. And to Mona, Nicci leaves the duty of loving her husband David...

'To My Best Friends' is well-written and full of spot-on observations about friendship, love and family. The plot structure is clever and original, and every character has an interesting, well-thought-out storyline. I loved the fashion reminiscences that stylish Nicci's wardrobe of clothes threw up, along with the depths in Nicci's character that were gradually uncovered. All in all, a great read, and thoroughly recommended.

Disappoining read 8 Aug 2011

Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I am sorry to say that I found this book boring. I nearly gave up half way through but persevered....unfortunately it didn't improve.

I was confused by the blurb and reviews for this book, making the main character Nicci sound like a lovely best friend, when in fact she didn't sound like a very nice person at all, just opinionated and overbearing. The story lines for her friends were pretty dull too.

I haven't read such a slow book in years.
