Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

This really flies. Like a weird shaped frizbee that goes and goes. Takes a bit of getting used to but can be compared to throwing an American football. Great fun, especially when it's windy! 9.5cm diameter, the world record is 600ft for one throw!

Product Description

The ultimate catch game, X-zyLo is an incredible flying gyroscope that has been thrown the length of two football fields!

Thrown it over 600 feet!

In 1993, an amazing flying gyroscope, the X-zyLo, flew onto the outdoor recreational scene as one of the most exciting games of catch. zyLo larger image zyLo larger image zyLo larger image It was invented by Mark Forti, a Baylor University student, and refined within the aerospace industry. X-zyLo met with immediate acclaim.

In 1994, X-zyLo unofficially broke the existing world flying disc distance record when it was thrown 655 feet.

NASA scientists, renowned aerospace engineers and academic institutions have met with the makers of the X-zyLo, and studied X-zyLo's fascinating flight technology. Yet no consensus has been reached on how X-zyLo actually flies.

X-zyLo has been featured on many television programs such as Beyond 2000, Science Times, and Regis and Kathie Lee as well as in numerous national and international news publications including the 'L.A.Times', 'Success Magazine', 'The Christian Science Monitor', 'N.Y.Times.'

The X-zyLo Ultra is an amazing flying machine ideal for catch games in a large park or beach.

Excellent flying cylider. Flies like a projectile on its side.
'Tip: Fly it low to the ground and it will fly further!'

This beauty has supplied many great times with my friends, its great for all ages and my throwing has improved greatly since buying it, although great fun it does become tiresome and it is not as durable as one would like. Still a great buy and is an 8 out of 10.

2.0 out of 5 stars No Fun 18 April 2013

It takes a bit of practise to get it flying. When you do, thats it. No point playing catch with it. Its not durable enough. Any wind will blow it off course. Get a ball, much more fun.

This really does fly a long way, it's very satisfying to throw and a fun alternative to a frisbee or aerobie - I'm looking forward to trying it out on the beach this summer. It's one of those toys that makes you feel guilty for hogging it while your son/daughter looks on.

I'm fascinated by flying things, the more unusual the better. Bought a thing called an 'Aerobie' way back, brought it home from the USA before they were imported here and would win bets with it. It was then the "furthest flung object" according to Guinness, and now this device, which hardly looks as though it should fly - but it does!

Harder to fling than a frisbee or Aerobie, it takes some cunning wrist action to make it spin properly - practice makes perfect, they say.
But with the rain tipping down, we were not keen on getting soaked or wading through the wet grass in the paddock, so we made another one out of a bit of plastic bottle (Whites diet lemonade, 2L) and a bit of tin can (Waitrose chopped tomatoes, 800g) and taped the parts together.

Ours is a bit lighter than the X-Zylo (where do they get these names? X-Zylo? Consignia? Ugh!) ...and that means it flies better indoors - a bit slower and less smack when it hits things. Kept us amused until the rain stopped, anyway.
Outdoors, the X-Zylo flew further, but only with the precise wrist action needed. The Lemonade Tomato version was slower and 'floatier' as well as being a bit easier to throw. Or maybe we'd had more practice.

Either way, they both worked, although so far 60 feet is nearer what we can do than 600 feet!

    Recommended for the aero-minded.
