Product Description

BBC Review

Formed in 1995 by two drum and bass pioneers, E-Z Rollers cohorts Jay and Alex have risen steadily through the dance music ranks. For their production work, the pair enlisted the help of sometime studio friend and associate Kelly Richards. Their first long-player together, Dimensions Of Sound, arrived in 1996 and its gentle, jazz influenced hooks, solid beats and melodic keys were wonderfully enhanced by Kelly's exquisite vocals.

The benchmark was thus set. The crew kept their hand in over the next few months with various 12s before unleashing their second album, Weekend World, in 1998. This saw a brief excursion into the UK charts with "Walk This Land" which reached an astonishing No.18 in the UK charts after being used for the British flick, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Still ahead of the pack after all this time, they have produced their most accomplished LP to date. Packed with anthemic tunes such as the forthcoming single "Back To Love", and the hip-hop groove "You'll Never Know", this album stretches right across musical genres, from the breaks inspired "Take It EZ" to the dancehall-style flavas of "Lady Jam". Always open minded and well known for serving a huge assortment of different sonic delicacies from a number of different platters, Titles of the Unexpected sees them search deeper within their inner self.

With the enrolment of hip-hop beatbox legend Doug E Fresh and soul diva Sharon Brown, the sonic adventure is complete. This album has got to rock dancefloors all over the country. The EZs roll with high tempo d & b and mid-tempo breaks with a collection of tracks full of fervour and flair. And yet, unlike many of their predecessors, they seem to be having a very good time doing it. Any artist doing their third album must be doing something right and maybe this is the reason why they've come so far. This is a superb representation of where drum and bass is today. Get one. --David Silverman

When I saw a review which gave this cd 1 star I had to write my own as allthough its nowhere near as good as weekend world this is still one of my favourite dnb cd's.The problem is, as seems to be the case with Lickable Beats is that the Bonus cd is 10 times better than disc 1 which is odd. However I think this cd is worth every penny, for just the bonus disc if nothing else ,which has some amazing basslines with typical ez rollers female vocals. The highlights being in my opinion, Walk this land live mix, rs200 ,dust and submission which has a really heavy bassline. As for cd1...well lets not talk about that.

It's been a very long time since E-Z Rollers last album, the superb 'Weekend World'. In the intervening years, drum & bass virtually dropped off the map as a commercial proposition, before storming back in a new poptastic form through the likes of Kosheen and Shy FX & T Power. E-Z Rollers were one of the first to actually score a d & b hit, albeit by accident, with the anthemic 'Walk This Land' from Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels.
'Titles of the Unexpected' seems to be a pretty determined effort to capture this new pop market, laden as it is with vocal tracks, a couple of Garage efforts and a radio-friendly sheen. The problem is, it isn't very good. The pop tracks aren't particularly memorable (which is pretty much an essential requirement for pop), and the garage tracks are, frankly, irritating. Even the drum and bass rollers sound tired and cliched. Anyone searching for another 'Retro' here, will come away disappointed.
All in all, it's a bit of a mess, which is a shame. For newbies out there, I thoroughly recommend 'Weekend World' as one of the best albums the genre has to offer. Their 'Dimensions of Sound' album is also excellent. This time they've come unstuck, I'm afraid.

I feel it my moral duty to dissuade anyone from buying this album. I bought it after absolutely loving 'walk this land' (the one from Lock, Stock...), and boy what a disappointment this album was. I was expecting something similar to Roni Size, but instead, i got the b*st*rd child of the so solid crew and (insert incredibly rubbish drum'n'bass artist here). So, unless you're curiousity outweighs your common sense, please, for the love jah, DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM.
