About the Author

Filson Young was a influential journalist and writer. He had visited Belfast in the summer of 1911 to see the Titanic under construction and following the Titanic disaster went to Southampton to see her sister ship Olympic leave for America. He walked around on board and understood the feeling of unsinkability that had given such false confidence to the passengers and crew aboard the Titanic. He wrote many popular books including The Trial of Hawley Harvey Crippen.

I found this book while researching my own book (on the business management and decisions leading to the Titanic disaster). It's an elegant read, capturing so many aspects of the tragedy, human and operational.

What impresses me most is the speed at which Filsom Young researched and wrote this piece. He was an accomplished journalist, which shows in the writing, but to gather so much information, and knit it together within a few weeks is remarkable.

Thank you to the people who made this book available.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting 2 April 2012
By janny
Format:Kindle Edition
Interesting read and I liked the statistics at the end to show how many of each class of passengers and crew died, something I didnt know before. It shows how differently they were treated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Titanic 3 Sep 2011

Format:Hardcover
Very interesting from both a historical point of view and the technical too. The facts are very clear and further impress the run up circumstances in April 1912. Recommended read.

4.0 out of 5 stars TITANIC BOOK REVIEW
The book gets off to a good start, having a vivid description of the locations at the time just before the disaster. But I have yet to complete the reading.
